Chapter 10
Alec POV
The red amber sparks slowly died down between our outstretched palms and I could feel my hair slowly falling back into place. I couldn't help but to think that the tornado of energy, which had just stormed around us must have messed it up. Cleo's dark brown hair was gently falling into place around her face, the bottom of her soft curls were dancing in the breeze of the energy flowing back into the ground. I had been told about the bonding ceremony but I could never had imagined that it would be this intense. I looked into Cleo's red amber eyes and I could feel everything she felt, it was like all of her emotions were rushing through my body. I instinctively knew that I had a connection to Cleo now, something that the magic of Bastet had put into place. I drew a deep breath and as I did, I felt a small jolt go through my body. I looked over at Cleo and her eyes had instantly changed back to their special bright Steel colour.
"You both okay?" Rose rushed over to us, jumping over the line of sand.
"Yeah, we're fine," Cleo responded.

I was sitting on the couch in our living room, still dazed from the bonding ceremony. Experiencing one and talking about it was worlds apart. I still felt like myself, I didn't feel like the ceremony had changed me, so I didn't really see what Rose had been going on about. Just as my mind drifted to Rose, I could hear her approach our front door.
"Hey," she called out as she closed the door behind her.
"I'm in here."
She walked over and sat down on the couch next to me, placing a small cooling box on the coffee table.
"Is that what I think it is?" my voice sounded harsher that what I had intended it too. I guess I was more annoyed than I realised by the fact that she was going to leave me here.
"Yes, I know that Central wants it as soon as possible."
"And you couldn't wait until tomorrow morning. You had to do it tonight?" my voice was still harsh, but now I made no effort to hide it.
"Alec, don't pick a fight with me just because I'm leaving."
She had with one sentence depleted all my will to fight with her. She really had a talent for getting to the root of the problem straight away. I felt myself give up and allowed my body to move closer to hers.
"I don't want you to leave me alone here," my fingers played in her hair.
"You don't feel different after the bonding ceremony?" now her voice was the harsh one and she got up from the couch, away from my reach and started to fiddle with the strap on the cooling bag.
"Well...," I thought about it for a moment, "I do feel more connected to Cleo."
"Did you notice the colour of her eyes change?" Rose's face was void of emotion.
"Yes, I did. They turned red amber for a moment."
"That's your bond. You have a link with her now. You can feel what she feels and the same goes for her. Bastet's powers have tied you together. It'll help her trust you."
I didn't know how to take the news, but looking back at what had happened Rose's words made perfect sense.
"So what does this mean?"
"You're her mentor and you need to protect her and teach her to protect herself. I don't like the fact that she's so close with the wolves. I haven't sensed any Hunters here but you know that they are never far away."
