Chapter 50

Jackson POV

I walked into Tim's house, it felt more like my home than my own house did. I hung my jacket on a clothes horse in the hallway and followed the voices into the kitchen.

"Hello dear," Maggie, Tim's Mom smiled at me. "Are you hungry?"

I nodded and sat down at their kitchen table. She placed down a plate with a sandwich in front of me.

"Hey," Tim greeted me as he walked in and sat down.

"When's Dad coming back?" he asked his mother.

"Any minute now sweetie," Maggie replied.

I heard him turn the door handle before he walked into the house.

"Hello," Maggie greeted her husband with a quick kiss before he joined us at the table.

"So you boys wanted to talk to me?" Alan, Tim's Dad looked at me with a warm glow in his eyes. I thought he felt a special bond to me, as he was the alpha of his pack and I was the alpha of mine.

"We've had some issue and they are becoming worrying," I started. "Wyhatt was kidnapped by Hunters," I looked around the table. Maggie gapsed and clutching Alan's hand. His eyes were steadfast.

"Was? So he is okay now?" Alan replied.

"Yes, he's fine Dad. We got him back. The Basati helped us," Tim said. For a second I was annoyed at him, for telling his father all the information we had. For telling him about Cleo, but I knew that this was bigger than that now. The elders deserved to know what had been going on. We couldn't leave them unaware of what had been happening.

"We know from what Wyhatt overheard when he was the capture that they are planning a big fight," I continued.

Alan nodded and took the news surprisingly well. It stunned me for a second that he had not asked for any more information about the Hunters or the Basati. He must know more about them than what he had let on.

"Thank you for telling us. Let's keep the communication open between our packs," his eyes rested on me. "This is not the moment where we should be divided. We should stick together and make sure that no one of ours is hurt." There was a pointed subtext of his comment, he's main priority is the wolves, not the Basati. I felt his words ringing in my ears. It was as if he was telling me that it should be my priority too. I felt a swell of protectiveness rise up in my chest, whatever Alan said Cleo would also be part of my pack. In my eyes, protecting her was as important as protecting any of them. I felt my strong emotions bubble up again and I realised that I needed to do what I could to make things right between us. If there was any chance for me to get her back, I had to try.

The conversation had died down and Maggie had gone back to making dinner. I had absentmindedly been playing a card game with Tim at the kitchen table. I looked up and realised that Dessie has walked in. She was about to sit down when Maggie turned to her, "Sweetie, could you grab some rosemary from the herb garden for me?"

"Let me help you," I said and follow her out in the garden. Part of me wanted to make sure that there wasn't any threats lurking out there but part of me also felt a need to talk to her.

She walked over to the rosemary bush and started snapping of branches.

"So when are we going to hang out again?" Her cheeks bloomed pink as she spoke.

I hesitated for a moment before speaking, "I don't think that's a good idea." I couldn't have her hanging around me or cling to me when the threat of the Hunters were hanging over us. In her eyes, everything is just as it was during Easter break. Nothing had changed in her world, as she had not turned yet. She was not yet a wolf and because of that she was exposed. I couldn't have her being around me, thinking there was some chance of us starting to date when things were like they were. Besides, I had to think of Cleo. If I wanted her back I couldn't have Dessie running around me.
