Chapter 5
Encounter
Nadran gaped in shock. He could not believe that Volzan, the reason for so many innocent deaths as well as Nadran’s end goal, was so suddenly standing right in front of him. Nadran had thought that getting to Volzan and avenging the innocent people would take a lot of time, yet Volzan appeared after less than three days.
Volzan smiled at Nadran and said “So, you are the last one alive after that raid. If you were able to fight your way out of that town, you must have some skill. This should be entertaining.”
Nadran, infuriated, shouted “How… How dare you kill innocent people?! You are completely unforgivable! You will pay for what you’ve done!”
Volzan smiled again and calmly said “You see, I’ve always wanted to be the ‘bad guy,’ and here, I can do that without any problems. When you are feared, it is very entertaining to scare people, to watch them shiver in fear. I can’t do that in ‘reality,’ so I made this game so that I can be the evil bad guy, the evil entity in TV shows, movies, or books. I want to be the one who rules over all, the one who heroes try to slay but fail, and with this game, that is possible!”
“You… You’re insane!” Nadran shouted.
“Really? You think me insane? No, I am completely sane. I just enjoy the pain and suffering of others. It is amazing to have others tremble at the sound of my name. Infamy is much better than I thought,” Volzan replied.
This guy deserves to be in an insane asylum, Nadran thought in surprise. How did he become so famous and influential when he is clearly delusional?
“Enough talk, let’s see what you’ve got,” Volzan said, drawing his sword with his right hand. It seemed to be a completely normal shortsword with nothing special about it. Does he intend to fight me with that sword? Nadran wondered.
“Draw your weapon and let’s fight,” Volzan said. “Hopefully you will be a decent challenge.”
“You’ll regret fighting me,” Nadran said, drawing his twin swords. “I will take you down!”
“Naturally, as I have not yet fought anyone, I am still a level 1,” Volzan continued as if he didn’t hear Nadran. Then he looked over at Nadran’s black twin swords and said “Oh, so that is what class you are. This will be more fun than I than I anticipated.” Volzan smiled. “Now, let’s begin!”
Letting out a yell, Nadran charged towards Volzan, who was about ten feet away. He swung his left sword horizontally at Volzan, who blocked it calmly with his sword. Nadran then, keeping his left sword pushing against Volzan’s sword, sliced upwards with his right sword. Smiling, Volzan adjusted his sword while keeping Nadran’s left sword at bay, and blocked Nadran’s upward strike.
