Chapter 27
Stop Breaking the Wall!
Huh? Nadran thought, confused, as he opened his eyes, looking up at an unfamiliar tree line. Where am I? Suddenly he remembered the attack of the Varn on the mountaintop, and he sat bolt upright, a look of worry on his face. Unfortunately, Lunalia, in her concern for his wellbeing, had moved a bit too close to him, and, in rapidly sitting up, his head collided directly with hers, causing Lunalia to stumble backwards, and Nadran to fall over again. Wincing and rubbing his forehead, he looked around, seeing the others, which prompted a smile of relief to cover his face. "You're all right!" he exclaimed, moving to get to his feet.
"That's our line!" exclaimed Aledro, offering a hand to help Nadran up to his feet. "Where were you all this time?"
"All this... time?" Nadran repeated, looking confused. "How long has it been since we fought the Varn on top of the mountain?"
Aledro looked slightly lost, and said "You've been missing for... five months. We all thought you were... dead."
Five months?! It's been that long? But... it seems like they're all okay. "What happened to you guys, though? Did you manage to defeat the Varn?"
Lunalia spoke up next. "We... weren't able to. We were actually saved by Salamar. Right before they were able to finish us, that girl somehow irritated Salamar again, and he flicked them off the side of the mountain with his tail. Then he took off, grumbling something about 'Kids these days.' Since then, we've been looking for you, and basically wandering around. More importantly, how did you manage to survive getting stabbed in the chest, falling off a cliff, and getting eaten by a dragon?!"
Nadran paused for a moment, as if he was just considering that question for the first time now. "Um, I, well, you see, I, uh, um, I'm... not sure of that myself."
"How do you not know how you avoided dying in multiple different ways?" Aledro asked incredulously. "I feel like that's the kind of thing you would remember."
Nadran scratched his head, embarrassed. "Well, I think I passed out as I was falling into the dragon's mouth, and I don't remember anything past that. I feel like I just woke up from when I passed out then."
"Soooo... you're saying you've been passed out for five months, and then somehow ended up in the middle of a forest where we just happen to pass through?" Aledro said skeptically.
"I... guess?" Nadran said, sounding about as confident as Aledro. "I mean, what other options are there?"
Lunalia suddenly straightened up as though she had thought of something. "Oh yeah, what about the giant pillar of light? Maybe it... brought him here or something. It did bear resemblances to a teleportation array..." She trailed off, muttering to herself, a look of concentration on her face.
"Oh, I almost forgot about that light pillar with all the excitement at finding Nadran again," Hadon said, his eyes lighting up. "Yeah, that's probably related to you being here."
Nadran frowned and said "I don't think that this giant light pillar thing you're talking about has anything to do with me."
"Oh?" Hadon responded. "Why not?"
"From what I understand, you guys saw some huge column of light somewhere nearby shortly before you found me, so you assume that it had something to do with me?"
