I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wings
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings
with fearful trill
of the things unknown
but longed for still
and his tune is heard
on the distant hill for the caged bird
sings of freedom

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn
and he names the sky his own.

But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing

I was alone with my thoughts, it was a scary place to be. Don't worry the suicide thing not for me. Been there failed that it only counts if you make it and don't return, but me...I came back. The time was counting down it went from three or two months to now two days before graduation. Yea I told Rae but his views were you know a big no and Tobias...Well I haven't told him either.

Honestly...I don't think I have to since he has what he wanted. After Rae dropped me off at home I decided to stay and chill with the fam. My dad was here til graduation and I just needed the support. After my altercation with Prime...seriously I didn't care no more. Yes I was shooked and not ok but my mind was made up I was leaving in two days to a new life. As I laid in my bed I caught a text From Rae and of course he was on his shit.

RaeMal: bae...Wyd

Me: nothing. Chilling with my fam.

RaeMal: well fuck them Im bored come through I want some booty.

Me: Sorry bae I can't

RaeMal: are you fuckin serious frfr

Me: yea ik but I want to be with my fam today. we can chill tomorrow after school

RaeMal: so...you telling me no... ight got yo ass.

I didn't even bother replying. I rolled over and walked into my aunts room and sat and watch her get dress.

"And who the lucky guy?!"

I asked being childish with her.

"What guy...boy hush yo self. Its Yolanda birthday down at the church and she invited me to go out."

"Out...where?!"

"Too some bar called Midnight magic.!"
