The military was everywhere.
Survey Corps, Garrison, Military Police, they were all swarming the refugee camp, keeping the rowdier ones in line. You kept your face hidden by a hood, the same mud-covered black hood you wore so many years ago in the Underground. You knew you were bound to be caught at some point, but you couldn't bear the thought of leaving Natsu and Fuyu by themselves.
But it has to happen. Wether I go to them, or they find me, it's going to happen. You thought one night, staring at the top of the tent you shared with the twins. Natsu and Fuyu are close with Eren and Mikasa, and those two are mature enough to take care of themselves. If I leave, maybe Natsu and Fuyu will be safe with them.
All of a sudden, Fuyu squeezed your hand. You looked to her, and to your surprise she was still asleep. "M...Mommy..." She was whispering softly.
This nearly broke your resolve, but you tried to stay strong. This was a good time, on a clear night and those two were asleep. I can't keep running forever. You thought, brushing your (h/c) hair behind your ear to kiss Fuyu on the cheek. You did the same to Natsu, then put back on your muddy black cloak. "I'm sorry, I love you both." You whispered before opening the tent.
You stepped out into the air. It was slightly chilly, but not that bad. There was a light on at the biggest tent, and you could see shadows there. Familiar looking shadows, like the one you saw in the Underground. You quietly walked towards the tent, and taking a deep breath, entered.
"Yes?" A deep voice asked in surprise. "Do you need something?"
You slightly looked up, and a chill ran through you. Erwin Smith was staring right at you, the one you had met in his office many years ago.
"Ah..I.." Your voice croaked, when all of a sudden, you felt a burning pain in your back as you fell forward. Someone kicked you in the shoulder, and you felt yourself curling up in a smaller ball, an instinct you had whenever someone hurt you.
The person who kicked you grabbed your arm and raised your body off the floor. "What the hell, Erwin, you could've been killed if this thief was fast enough." He growled, and you froze.
All of a sudden, he punched you in the face. "You're lucky I don't have my sword with me, brat, because if I did you'd have to collect all the broken pieces of your arm." He hissed, twisting your arm. You slightly cried out, your arm being much weaker than a normal person's. He threw you back onto the floor.
"Oi, brat, what kind of killer-for-hire are you if you don't even try to fight back?" He asked, walking towards you. "Let's see what your cowardly face looks like."
All of a sudden, your black hood was ripped off your head.
"L-Le.." You whimpered, looking up at him through fearful eyes. Not fearful like the ones you did when you were trying to be scared, but genuine ones. You knew Levi was really strong, but he was always so gentle to you, Farlen and Isabel. "-vi..."
He was staring at you in shock, in horror. "..(nickname)?"
