Pretty soon the duo reached the 69th jump. Nika was panting like crazy and Tama wasn't sure how much longer Nika could go. They had at least third more jumps to go. Luckily they came upon the second and final checkpoint where Jakob was waiting. Tama had Nika break to a trot then had her halt at the checkpoint where she got off and brought Nika some water.
"We can do this girl, just a bit farther until the finish line," Tama said stroking Nika's sweaty neck. They were both exhausted, muddy, and running out of steam. But they had o finish. Just thinking about how happy Machi would be when Tama and Nika finish motivated Tama to keep going, and the prospect of resting for days made Nika want to finish. After Nika caught her breath a bit, Tama got back on.
"Just third some more jumps to go Nika, hopefully this won't take too long."
They took off towards the next jumps. The very next one came up quite fast. It was a water leap. The water was partially frozen but not near enough to hold nika if she were to jump across. Nika knew this and took a giant leap over it. She landed with her back hoof almost touching the icy water. The rest of the jumps felt like they were hours apart from each other. That was mainly due to the two's exhaustion levels. Finally it came to an end and they saw the finishing gait. Nika whinnied in delight and picked up her pace. They were almost there. Nika jumped the final jump and raced into the finishing gait. The crowd roared with cheer.
"You did it Tama!" Shouted a very cheerful Machi. Sharp shot reared in excitement. Tama and Nika proved they were a great pair.
