Chapter 3: Family Memories

"Oh wow I am stuffed like a turkey!" I said leaning back in the booth and laying my hand on my stomach. The boys laughed and finished their meals. When we finally pulled up I was completely shocked. This place as just like those old time diners in movies. It had glass with different painted pictures on each one. Jack helped me out of the car and walked to he door. It was big and red with a open sign on it. We walked in and a pretty red head in roller blades came over. "Hey guys! How many will that be today?" She asked looking from Jack to Rus. When she saw me she jumped as if she was startled by me. "Oh dear and who is this pretty lady?" she asked. "Carly, this is our new friend Julie, Julie this is Carly," Jack introduced us gesturing his hand from me to her. "Hi, how are you?" I said holding my hand out to her. Carly smiled and took my hand shaking it vigorously. "It's great to meet you especially a friend of Russell and Jack's," She said smiling. I smiled back and she lead us to a booth. Jack slid in beside me and Russell on the other side of the booth.

After we ordered we sat talking and laughing when a elderly black lady came out from behind the counter. She strolled towards us with a huge smile. "Well now what a pleasant surprise my two boys finally have returned," the lady said. "Oh Mrs.Teal you know we love your cooking and you," Russell said. "Oh sure you do....oh dear where are my manners I'm Mrs. Teal and who are you sugar?" She asked looking at me. "I'm Julie," i said taking her hand and shaking it.Mrs.Teal had this motherly sweet atmosphere to her. She was short and stout but very pretty. I just meet her and I've already felt like I have known her for years. "So which one of this guys is the lucky man?" Mrs.Teal asked. I blushed and the guys chuckled nervously. "Um neither one actually were just friends," I answered nervously knowing full well she could probably see right through me.She nodded her head and laughed. Someone from the back called for her. Mrs.Teal waved then jogged off to the kitchen. Russell left a tip and paid the bill. We made our way out of the diner and back into the car. "Alright Princess what is your address," Russell asked eying in his GPS. I told him my address and it came up on the system. We drove off, it was silence till we got to the bridge. I felt someone tap my hand and I looked up. Jack was smiling at me, i smiled back. "So what are you guys going to do when you drop me off?" I asked. "Well what are your plans for today?" Jack asked. "I have to be at work by 2," I said. "Well we will take you to your house then to work, what time do you get off?" Jack asked. "Well the library closes at 6 but usually I have things to put away and file so I'll call you from there when I'm close to being done," I said.

Russell pulled the Rover onto the crib in front of my house. I hopped out and waited for one of them to come to my side. Jack came around and then Russell. Rus kept looking around maybe watching for Evan's goons lurking around. I walked up the steps and unlocked the door. As soon as I walked in Tuck came bonding down the stairs and jumped on me. I laughed and rubbed his head. "Hey boy did you miss me I am so sorry buddy," I cooed at him. Jack came in and chuckled at the love feast he saw. I got up and walked to the kitchen door letting Tucker out. "So that's the famous Tucker," I heard Jack say from the living room. I walked into the living room finding Jack looking at all my pictures on the fireplace stand. He was looking at the one of my mom,dad, younger sister Callie,and older sister Danielle. "This your folks?" He asked pointing at the picture. "Yeah um that's my mom,dad, and sisters," I answered. "Wow you and your sisters look like your mom," He said. "Yeah we do," I said sadly. "What's wrong Julie?" He asked taking his fingers and pulling my chin up to look at him. I took a deep breath and looked away. "My parents were killed in a car accident 2 years ago, a drunk driver hit them head on. The drunk driver walked away with a few bruises but my parents died instantly. My sister Callie was just 18 when they died she went into a depressed state and had to be sent to a mental rehab. Danielle left 3 months later for Italy. Callie was released a year ago next month she lives in California and is working on a degree in social services. Danielle became a renowned artist in Italy and married her Italian lover. I hear from her maybe once a month. Callie usually calls every week." I said walking over to the sofa and sitting down. "Oh Julie I'm sorry sweetie," He said wrapping his arms around me. I sobbed into his chest not really wanting to relive my parents death. A few minutes passed and Russell came in.

I got up and let Tucker in. Tucker went and smelled both the boys before going and laying in front of the TV. "So um do you guys want a tour of my crib," I said. They both nodded and I gave them a quick tour of my 2 bedroom 1 bath town house. When I finished i quickly went upstairs took a quick shower and changed into jeans, a purple flowery blouse, and yellow cardigan. I brushed my teeth and hair then put a little make up on. I found my black flats and slide them on. Making sure I had everything in my purse and walked downstairs.The boys were watching TV when I came down. 'Okay guys um let me feed Tuck and lock the back door," I said. They nodded and stood. Rus went out first before I came back. Jack grabbed my coat and helped me in it . We slowly made our way outside. I locked the door and Jack hid me behind his back leading me towards the car. After doing our Little routine we were off to the library. 10 minutes later the boys dropped me off. Jack walked me up the stairs then kissed my head. "Call as soon as you close and get ready to leave," He said. I nodded and he walked off. I waved at Rus and he waved back. One they drove off I walked into the library. Unaware what was waiting for me in there.
