I stayed out there with him until sunset. Neither of my parents knew where I was or what I was doing, which didn't matter considering I'm an adult. Josh knew what I was doing, so knowing him he would make up some sort of excuse for me. Thats just how he was.
I made it home later on, as my mother unleashed he wrath on me. And like I predicted, Josh helped me out with another excuse. My only fear now is when my mother finds out about my relationship with Tyler. Its funny, because the father is the one whose supposed to not like their daughters boyfriends. It was the other way around for me. Although mom liked Tyler, she'd make up some excuse.
And she sure as hell did.
"Really, Riley? Your brothers best friends?" she says to me, as she cooked dinner over the stove.
"Mom, what does it matter?" I exclaim. "You can't make the whole 'i don't like him excuse. You've known him before this and thought he was a sweet guy."
"He is, Riley. But-" she starts.
"But you don't like the thought of me growing up. Yeah, I've heard it all." I tell her, leaving the kitchen.
"By the sounds of it, that didn't go well." Josh says, from where he was sitting on the stairs. I nod, as he pats a seat next to him. I sit.
"She's never liked anything I did." I tell him. "Even now."
"Yeah, well... As long as you're making yourself happy, thats all that counts." he tells me. "Mom cares about you. She just shows it in different ways."
"You guys are going on tour eventually, right?" I ask, as he nods. "Would I be able to go?"
"Only if you want too." he shrugs.
"Thanks Josh."
"For what?" he asks, confused.
"For being a great brother." I tell him, as he smiles. "Hows Debby?"
"She's doing good." he tells me. "We're going out tonight."
"Have fun, you crazy kids." I say, hitting his shoulder and standing up. "Don't be out too late."
