I smile as I grab Lukas' present from under my bed. Tonight is his party and everyone is buzzing. Especially Eli and I.
Eli had everyone running around the house again, cleaning, cooking, and decorating. It was a hassle, but the place looks even better than it usually does.
I stand up suddenly after picking up the box and fire erupted throughout my chest. Man, heartburn can get ya'.
Rubbing the spot on my chest, I walk towards my closet. Yanking the door open, I assess the clothes that are hanging on the metal bar. Nothing really caught my eye until I came upon a teal cocktail dress.
I gently take it out to look it over.
When the heck did I get this thing?
Not that I don't mind, I just never remember getting it. It's shimmery at the top and flows out above my ribs to teal and stops mid-thigh. It really is beautiful. I hope Luke likes it.
I step into the dress and slip on some silver stilettos. Hopefully I don't fall and break my neck tonight.
Smoothing out the non-existent wrinkles, I pace around my room. So many wrong things could happen tonight. But I won't let them. Luka deserves this day.
Suddenly, my heartburn flares up again. I grip my chest and pace myself towards the nightstand to grab some pain relief medicine. I pop the items in my mouth and chase them down with some water from the faucet in the bathroom across the hall.
On my way back to my room, I hear a loud smack.
"What the heck Luka?!" Eli whisper yells. I snicker and walk back into my room. Someone found their present early.
Not even five minutes after I walk into my room, does the doorbell ring. A few minutes later, the kitchen downstairs is filled.
I click my way down the marble stairs to meet Eli at the bottom of the stairs. The smile on my face drops.
"Eli. That wasn't supposed to work out like that. Luka was supposed to meet me at the bottom of the steps. Not you... no offense," I sadly remark as I hang my head.
"Hey, um... Listen, Luka-" Eli was cut off by Luka as he waltzes into our conversation.
"Hey, Vee. You look beautiful," Luka interrupts and grabs my small hand in his large one. Heat invades my cheeks at his compliment.
"Thank you. You look rather dashing yourself," I say linking my hand with his. He sends a smirk my way. For some reason Eli shoots him a glare as we walk away.
"Happy Birthday, birthday boy!" I squeal, pinching his cheek teasingly.
"Shut up..." he smiles and brushes my hand off gently. I giggle at his reaction. Couples and groups of people begin to steady flow in through the front door. As Luke and I float around the rooms, Luka receives many 'happy birthday's to which he responds with a simple 'thank you and thank you for coming'.
Sooner or later everyone starts to get tipsy off the alcoholic beverages that were being passed around. I attempt to remain slightly sober, seeing that I don't want anything bad to happen and have none of us sober enough to help.
Eli stumbles his way up the staircase to the balcony that overlooks the floor beneath it.
"Welcome! Th-Thank you for coming out tonight to celebrate this oafs birthday!" he hiccups while pointing to Luka. I smile up at my mate and wind my arms around his torso. He slings his right arm over my shoulder, his left hand holding a beer bottle. My brows furrow and my mouth forms into a frown. I don't want him getting too drunk tonight.
