Cravings were the worst thing that has probably ever come to life. The thing is, before I was pregnant the though of pickles and peanut butter was disgusting. But at the moment, it is the the only thing that I enjoy eating.
"Luka!" I screech for the umpteenth time today. He has been really sweet ever since we found out that I was pregnant. I mean he was sweet before, but I mean he doesn't complain about getting me everything I ask for. You see I would get it myself, but at four and a half months pregnant, it's proving to get a bit difficult.
"Yes, my queen?" he asks as he emerged from the doorway. He shuts the door behind him with a grin. He has been smiling a lot more, and I think that would be because of the baby.
"He misses you," I pout gesturing to my stomach. We have a bet about the gender of our child. I think that it's a boy, but Luke is hellbent that it is a girl.
"Well I missed her too," he chuckles as he flops down on the bed next to me. He lays his large hand onto my abdomen and as if sensing their dad was there, the baby begins kick uncontrollably. Luka smiles and kisses my stomach. He begins to whisper sweet nothings to my stomach. The sight warms my heart, so I take a picture with my phone and set it as my background.
"We find out what you are today," he gently coos to my stomach while pressing another kiss to my skin. As if replying to the question, the baby kicks again. We both laugh to the actions of our child.
"Speaking of which, you need to get ready. We have to leave in fifteen minutes," Luka commands while pressing a final kiss to my stomach. Groaning, I haul myself out of the bed and into the bathroom.
I take a quick shower and get dressed. Being dressed and ready, I hobble down the steps to the best of my ability.
Luka stands at the foot of the steps with the keys to the Rover in his hands. I give a smile which is replicated by him.
As we pull into the gravel drive of the pack doctor, excitement fills my bones. I finally will know the sex of my baby!
Clicking my seat belt open, Luka pulls open the door for me. I thank him and slide my feet to the ground. Nervousness makes itself present as well. I wring my hands together and make my way to the door of the doctor. With a gentle tug, the door flies open. The sterile decor of the hospital is familiar to me.
Luka checks in with Sandra at the front desk. He comes and sits beside me and we sit in a comfortable silence. About ten minutes later the nurse comes and calls my name. Luka helps me stand from the vinyl chair, although I didn't need him to. We follow the nurse to a room where she takes my vitals.
"Your doctor will be here shortly," she politely states with a smile and leaves the room with a soft 'click' of the door. I smile at Luka nervously from my spot on the medical table. He shoots a thumbs up just as the doctor walks into the room. Doctor Lucy was a petite brunette who was super nice.
"Hello Mr and Mrs Accardi! How are we all today?" she politely asks while putting on gloves and picking up the clipboard the nurse left on the table.
Luka and I reply at the same time. The doctor nods and smiles at us.
"Good, good. Are you guys ready to find out the gender of the baby?" she asks with a grin on her face.
I nod eagerly in time with Luka.
"We kind of have a bet on the gender against each other," Luka pipes up from the other side of the room. Dr Lucy pulls my shirt up to the top of my rib cage as Luka speaks. She smears the gel on my swollen stomach with a chuckle at Lukas' sentence.
Placing the wand on my skin, she moves it around until she is able to see it clear enough.
"Would you guys like to hear the heartbeat first?" We both nod and listen eagerly. The gentle beating of our childs' heart resonates throughout the room. A sense of love and pride fill my chest as I listen.
She cuts it off after about two minutes.
"And now the gender," she says while squinting and looking at the screen. After a few seconds of silence she smiles.
"You two are having a. . ." she trails with a mischievous grin. Luka and I hand by the edge of our seats. My heart is going a thousand beats per minute and excitement fills me.
"A bouncing baby boy," she finishes with a toothy smile.
Tears blur my vision and a smile breaks out onto my face. I wipe away the happy tears. I glance at the screen and she points out how she could tell. I look over at Luka to see a grin plastered on his face as well. I'm glad that he is able to love the fact that it was a boy even though he was sure it was a girl.
As we walked out of the building hand in hand, Luka turns to me with the biggest smile ever.
"It's a boy," he laughs.
