The blonde looked up at Michael from under her light bangs, her eyes scanning over the features of the blue haired boy in front of her.

"Michael?" She whispered, reaching up to touch the pale boy's face. His eyes widened with realization as the women pulled him into a hug and started to cry.

"My baby." She whispered, tears leaking down her face. Michael's heart fluttered in grasp of his mother's warm arms, looking down at her. He wrapped his long, pale arms around the crying women. Shaking, she pulled away, looking him in the eyes.

"I'm so sorry." She whispered again, pulling him back into an airtight hug. Her sobs filled the air, and Michael bit his lip to stop the quivering.

"I'm here now, it's okay." She cooed, laying her head on his chest. His heart pounded, looking at the lady hugging him. He couldn't believe she was here. He couldn't believe after all these years, she'd come back for him. He had so many questions, such as why she left in the first place. Why she didn't take him, why she never called.

"I have so much explaining to do." She mumbled, letting go of him and gently holding his wrist. She guided him to the couch, and Michael sat across from her.

"Please don't hate me, Michael. I'm so sorry." She whispered, her voice shaky.

"Where's your father?" She asked suddenly, her eyes widening. Michael took a second to process these words. He forgotten all about his father, about his best friend in the basement.

"He was hurting me, Michael. I had to leave. Please don't hate me, please. I regretted not taking you every single day." She started to cry once more, wiping away the tears quickly.

He wanted to be mad at her. He wanted to punch the wall, never see her again. But he knew she was brave. She had to go, with or without him.

"Has he hurt you?" She asked, eyes red and puffy. Michael's eyes looked at the ground sheepishly, and she shifted uncomfortably.

"All my fault." She whispered, silence filling the air.

The two sat across from each other, the silence eating away at them. His mother opened her mouth to say something, but Michael quickly silenced her at the sound of the back door's squeals.

The door was slammed and footsteps echoed through the tiny house. Michael's heart started to pound, blood rushing to his cheeks.

The footsteps grew louder and louder as Michael drew in a hushed breath. He closed his eyes, and his mother took his hand.

"Karen?" A soft voice came from the hall. Michael turned and opened his eyes, meant by the face of his drunk father.

"It's me." She said, raising her chin with dignity.

"Karen, it's you." His gentle voice started, taking a few steps closer to them.

"What are you doing here?" His voice grew angry, louder by the second.

"You're wasted, as usual." She said in a sharp voice, standing up.

"Get out!" He screamed, pushing her to the ground. Her head smacked against the arm of the couch, and Michael's eyes widened. He inhaled heavily as his fathers wild eyes roamed around, landing on him.

"Disgusting!" He shouted, slapping Michael. The blonde flinched, waiting for another blow. But his father backed away, disappearing back into the hall.

Michael rushed to the crumple women, forgetting about his stinging face.

He wrapped his arms around her, feeling her struggle to keep herself upright.

"If you don't get out by 3, you're dead!" His father shouted, coming back into the room. But he had something in his hand that made Michael dizzy. He had a gun.

"One!" He shouted, but Karen had no strength to get up.

"Two!" He raised the gun, finger on the trigger.

"I'm so sorry, Michael." She managed before a gunshot went off. Michael closed his eyes, feeling a dead weight falling into his arms.

Calum opened the basement door with a slam. His eyes wide.

"Michael!" He shouted, but the blondes eyes were still closed. Another gunshot and a dropped body on the ground, and Michael drew his breath in, knowing it would be his last.

One more gunshot, and everything went black.
