Michael was happy today. He was happy to be alive, happy to have woken up this morning. An overall sense of serene surrounded him, he wish he felt like this everyday.
He sat next to Luke, one hand intertwined with his, the other holding holding onto the wet swing of the abandoned park. The two found themselves there a lot, liking the absence of noise and stress.
It was raining, but Michael didn't mind. He loved rain. He loved the sound of it falling from the sky, he liked the beautiful gray clouds they fell from. He liked the gentle breezes it came with, he liked the puddles streaming along the street. Michael loved rain.
But Michael looked to his side, and found the true reason he was happy today. The sunshine that beat any of his rainy days.
Luke's blue eyes wandered around, each looked filled with curiosity and excitement. There was always something on the blonde's mind, always something to think about.
Luke was thinking about Michael. He was savoring the touch of his warm hand on his cold one. He was studying the light blue locks that fell wet over his face. His emeralds for eyes that danced with color as they scanned the sky with delight. The smile engraved on his face, but Luke didn't know the reason behind it.
Michael was smiling because of Luke. A real, genuine smile. A smile of overall happiness, overflown with joy. The smile when someone proposes to the person they've been in love with for years. The smile when a woman finds out she's pregnant with the child she's been waiting for. The smile a little kid gets when a little boy dresses like a superhero, the smile a little girl gets when she wakes up on Christmas morning to find a puppy waiting for her downstairs. The smile a lover has when their partner comes home from war safe, the smile of a mother on her child's wedding day. All those smiles wrapped in one was Luke's description of Michael's smile.
The kind of smile so beautiful and bright it makes you smile, too.
"You're so smilely today." Luke typed, and sent the message to Michael. He was smiling too, because he liked seeing Michael's smile. He liked seeing Michael.
"I like the weather. And sitting with you." Michael responded, and Luke felt the heat rush to his cheeks despite the cool breezes.
"I like sitting with you too, but I usually prefer the rainbow that comes after the rain." Luke told him.
And on most days, Michael would've told Luke that rainbows don't always come after a storm. Rainbows are happy endings, but they didn't come often. Not as often as they should, at least for Michael. There should be a happy ending after every storm, but that's not real life.
But Michael didn't say that today.
"I prefer those too, Luke."
And with their luck, they did see a happy ending that day.
