It was a Wednesday. A boring, no-good Wednesday, and I'm stuck in the same old circular lunch table. Morgan and Robbie confessed they were dating, and I awkwardly third wheeled as I ate.
You're probably wondering where Shawn is.
Yeah, so am I.
I haven't seen him in a few days, he hasn't come to school, and when I try to go to his house and see if everything is okay, there isn't an answer.
I had never realized how boring school was without Shawn by my side, but it was awful. I loudly cleared my throat when I became concerned that Robbie and Morgan would choke on each other's tongues.
"You guys are so..," I pause, thinking of a word to describe how touchy they were towards each other, "affectionate?"
They smirk, "Enjoying the show, Grace?"
"You thought," I groan, "I wish I had more friends I could sit with."
When the bell rang, I practically jumped out of my chair, not caring I had to walk alone, I was thinking about making another friend.
But as I walked past the school's office, I saw Shawn handing the attendance lady a pass. I was suddenly extremely happy; Shawn was here and I'd no longer have to be a third wheel.
But as he turned to meet me, he smiled, as I recognized the bruise under his eye, and on his cheek. I became concerned, but he came closer and hugged me, whispering "I missed you."
I smiled and hugged him back, "I missed you too, but what happened?" I chuckle lightly, referring to the bruises.
"Oh, um, yeah. I got into a fight. But it's okay, you should've seen the other guy," he jokes, but deep down I knew that Shawn wouldn't even hurt a fly.
"Wow, you're so strong," I sarcastically swoon. "Anyways, since it's free period, I have some foundation and concealer in my locker in my locker if you need to cover that up."
"Could you? I don't really feel like having everyone ask me what happened," he smiles lightly.
His hand brushed against mine as we walked, and I silently prayed he'd hold my hand. But of course, he didn't.
"Yeah, come to my locker since our free period teacher falls asleep and pays is no attention every day," I laugh, thinking about how the old, plump lady would always fall asleep, snoring obnoxiously as drool spilled out the corners of her lips. I assumed Shawn thought of the same, because he laughed too.
I put in my combination and pulled my emergency make up bag out of my backpack. I smeared a little foundation on his cheek and under his eye, using a beauty blender to blend it. Next, I added some concealer, and then powder.
"Does it look okay?" He asks, scared someone will notice he's wearing make up.
"Yes Shawn, you look very pretty," I say, but little does he know I am not kidding. He is very pretty.
I studied my make up job, and Shawn stared at me back, and before I know it I'm lost in those damn eyes.
Grace, what the hell are you doing?
He leaned closer, and I leaned closer,
Are we about to kiss?
My eyes fluttered closed, hoping with everything in me that Shawn would kiss me.
However, I am taken out of my trance when a shrill voice booms, "MORROW! MENDES! What are you doing in the hallway in the middle of the period?"
Her voice caused me and Shawn to jump apart, but our heads banged together in the process. Which really fucking hurt by the way.
"Um, sorry, won't happen again," Shawn says confidently.
"Were you about to kiss?" Our lazy free period teacher who randomly decides to start doing her job at the worst time, asks.
"No, no, of course not. We'll be right in," I say, closing my locker. She nods and enters the classroom again.
I feel Shawn's hand grab mine, and he smiled at me, "Always comes at the wrong time."
I roll my eyes, sheepishly smiling back, "Yeah I know, but let's get to class before she actually starts to follow the disciplinary rules too," I shudder, and he opens the door for me.
Our supervisor is already asleep, of course.
And now I'm sitting in free period next to Shawn, wishing that he would just kiss me already.
