Chapter 33| Fall for You

I am running ahead of the rest of the squad, not able to get over Finnick's death. I think of Annie, and their unborn child. I think of the sugar cubes he had this weird obsession with. I think of how he was my only friend when Peeta and Prim were gone.

And just like that, he's dead. Finnick is gone. And he's never coming back.

The oil set off a lot of pods, so the holo isn't indicating any yet. I keep running in the direction of Snow's mansion. We aren't even close, but we need to get closer. We are still in the outskirts.

I look up into the sky, and see something flying towards us. Something really large. I have no idea what it is, but I do know that it's been created to kill us.

"Everybody, take shelter now!" I scream, as we all jump over a large wall and duck behind it. Only the Leegs didn't make it. That's when I hear the explosion, and pieces of matter fly everywhere.

We all discard what just happened and keep running. I move as fast as my feet will carry me.

Night is falling, and we need shelter. Everybody needs rest at some point. We come across an old Capitol school, and Gale breaks the door with the butt of his gun. We all make it into one of the classrooms. I hear the televisions beeping and look at one. It says "Mandatory viewing."
There we are, on-screen, just after the the birds took out Finnick. A voice-over tells the audience what they are viewing as we try to regroup, react the giant bomb flying towards us.

It shows as the bomb explodes, and the reporter announces us as dead. I look over to see Prim has passed out, and has been unconscious for a log time. There is a long, long silence.

"Okay, so now that we're dead, what's our next move?" Gale asks.

"Isn't it obvious?" No one even knew she regained consciousness. I don't know how long she's been watching, but by the look on her face, long enough to see what happened on the street. How she went mad, tried to bash my head in, and hurled Mitchell into the pod. She painfully pushes herself up to a sitting position and directs her words to Gale.

"Our next move... Is to kill me."

My head lies on Peeta's shoulder as I try to sleep. He's already snoring. My eyes are closed, but my mind won't stop wandering. I start to think of things, some scare me, and some are happy. It stops when I hear her voice.

"Katniss, I know you're not asleep." Prim says. I open my eyes. "It's alright. I can't ever sleep either. They messed me up pretty good in the Capitol, didn't they?"

I sadly nod at her. "The Capitol, they put tracker jacker venom in me. The memories, it's almost like they're shiny, they've been glossed over. You got sting in your first games, didn't you?"

"Yeah. I fell into a pit of orange bubbles." I say. "Shiny orange bubbles."

"Oh..." She nods.

There is a long, uncomfortable silence. "You still love me like I'm your sister. Real or not real?" She asks.

"Real. Because I love you more than anything in the world. Because you are my sister." She nods, a few tears slipping out of her eyes, and engulfs me in a hug. And I hug back. I eventually go back to Peeta and lie in his arms.

"Hands off!" I scream at Cray, who seems to have his hands on me once again.

"You thought you saw the last of me?" He laughs. "Last time was just child's play. Now, let's get down to business."

"Peeta! Peeta help me!" My throat is burning from screaming. "Please, let me go. I have a fiancé." I plead. He just smirks and shakes his head.

That's when Peeta bursts through the door. "Let her go! Don't touch her!" He screams at Cray. Cray just smiles at Peeta.

A man steps in and shoots Peeta in the head.

"Peeta! Peeta no!" I wake myself up from screaming. Only I don't wake myself, for Peeta's arm is on my shoulder shaking it. "Peeta," I sigh. "You're okay."

"Yeah. I'm fine. I'll be here with you, always." He says, wrapping his arms around my torso. I squirm around so I'm facing him. "I love you, Bread Boy." I smirk.

"And I love you, Girl on Fire." He smiles. I give him a long, passionate kiss, not caring about all the people who woke up and are staring at us.
