Adison's POV:
"What are you doing here?"
Shawn's voice is muffled in my ears but I can faintly hear him ask that question to the unknown person who rang our doorbell. I'm staring up at the ceiling with blurry vision, the supposed to be yellow light is now blue, and I have a pounding headache from the previous beating I took from him.
"You can't be here."
He sounds worried, and nervous, nervous of someone finding out what he does to me almost every night. I hear another voice speak, but I'm too disoriented to place whether it's a male or female, or better yet who's voice it belongs too.
I'm laying limply in the hallway that's in front of the front door, I have no doubt in my mind that Shawn's muscular body is blocking the strangers view from looking in and seeing me looking like death, not to mention I feel like it too.
"No of course she doesn't know," His feet shuffle, and his tone is low and dangerous, but more sobered up. Maybe that's what adrenaline does to people, it makes the alcohol dancing in their veins disappear, fear being a much more powerful drug.
"Then where is she?" My hearing becomes unclouded and I pick out the voice of a woman's, but me being too weak, I have no reaction towards her, or no familiarity to the stranger standing out in the cold, "Isn't Adison some pet of yours? constantly following you around like a little puppy? You'd be lying if you said she didn't suspect anything."
The two of them, Shawn and the woman, sound frantic and concerned, both thinking about how they can keep their secret, whatever it may be, away from me.
"She's so clueless Maddie, trust me." He almost laughs at that statement, laughing at me at how foolish I really am.
And it all hits me like a ton of bricks, I mean why else would a woman be at our door at these late hours of night, talking about if I knew their dirty little secret, that they could've so well have played off, if only they knew I was awake.
"Damn it Shawn, if she't not here let me come in, it's freezing." I can hear the shivers in the sweet voice of the young woman, who now has the name of Maddie, and the whole situation sickens me. I try to muster up strength to let out a cry, or a whimper, but the previous events have taken everything out of me, leaving me with nothing except hurt feelings.
"N-no you can't, she's here but upstairs, I'll come out just go to your car okay?" It's been, it seems, forever since I've heard him this scared and sober, and I can't help but let jealousy bubble up inside me.
What does she have that makes her deserve his sweetness? His soft side? everything I've wanted for forever? Things that he could never deliver to me without swearing me off the next morning with regret.
"Hurry up, I'm not going to wait for forever Shawn." I hear her heals turn around on the pavement of our porch, covered in light snow, and the clacking of them make their way down the walk.
Shawn shuts the door quickly, and he leans over my half open eyes and runs his hand through his hair, unsure if I witnessed the conversation he had with the woman who gets everything I want.
"God I'm so sorry," he breathes out, walking away, leaving me to only listen to the sound of him putting on his coat and opening the door, but before he leaves he says, "I want to explain, all of it, b-but words won't do this situation justice."
