Chapter 14

I laid on the couch, watching an old episode of The Vampire Dairies. It was Tuesday afternoon, and as per usual, I was home alone. The school day had come and passed and once my homework was finished, I fell back onto the leather couch, wearing a pair of black yoga pants along with a white tank top, and a baggy crème colored knitted sweater.

Eyes and attention glued to the TV, I failed to realize that someone had entered the house until they placed a hand on my shoulder causing me to jump a few feet in the air. I gasped- hand over my heart as I glared up at a smirking Adam.

Grabbing a cushion, I launched it towards his head. “You stupid idiot!” I yelled. “You scared me!”

Clutching his stomach, Uncle Adam fell back onto the recliner and whipped away the tears of laughter. “You’re face!” he gasped out. “It was priceless!”

“Shut up!” I yelled, crossing my arms across my chest and sinking back into the couch. Knees pulled up to my chest, I glared daggers at the supposed adult in the room before turning my attention back to the plasma TV screen. Stephan and Damon were in the middle of a heated argument but were stopped by Elena. I rolled my eyes and bit my lip. Even though I loved the show, Elena pissed me off to no extent.

“Where are your parents?” Adam asked, once he had calmed down from his laughing fit.

                “At work,” I mumbled.

“Still?” he asked. “It’s like eight at night.”

I shrugged, “They usually work late,” I told him. “What are you doing here?” I asked, looking over at him to see him biting at his finger nails, a nasty habit he wasn’t able to get rid of.

“I came to borrow some sugar.” He replied.

I scrunched up my nose in confusion, “Don’t you live like half an hour away?” I replied. “Why aren’t you at home with Anna?”

Adam sighed, “Anna’s staying with her parents.”

“Why?” I asked. “Wasn’t she with her parents all weekend?”

He nodded. “Tuesday is family dinner, strictly for family members only.” He said.

                I laughed, “Sucks for you.”

Adam rolled his eyes and nodded towards the TV, “Isn’t there anything else on?”

I shook my head, “No, but I was thinking about starting a movie, did you want to join, or did you really come over to borrow sugar?”

Shrugging Adam stood from the recliner and stretched. “You pick the movie, I’ll make popcorn.”

Even though the movie playing had nothing to do with drugs, or secretive guys, my thoughts still wondered over to Noah. The way his hard, cold, hazel eyes looked me straight into the eyes and told me he was going to transport twenty pounds of cocaine to a big time drug dealer, tomorrow night at 10 PM.

He was actually going to do it, even though he had a choice not to. He was going to go through with the job even though he knew it was going to be dangerous. He hadn’t been at school today, but on my way home, I had seen his car parked on the edge of the street across from an old warehouse. A few guys walked around the perimeter of the warehouse, probably keeping watch.
