We walked into the classroom and found seats next to each other. There was an open seat next to me that was quickly filled.

"Hi. I'm Isaac." I turned at the sound of a new voice and found a pale boy with curly hair and sharp cheekbones.

"H-hi. I'm Ryder."

"Ryder, this is Erica and Boyd." I looked up and saw a pretty blonde white girl and a silent and broody but cuddly sort-of looking dark boy.

"Hi." Erica said, waving enthusiastically.

"We were wondering if you wanted to hang out with us after school. You can meet my other friend Derek." Isaac asked me.

"Uh, I don't know. I'll have to ask Stiles-" I started to turn to my new housemate before Isaac roughly grabbed my arm and stopped me.

"Why? You don't need his permission to make friends." Isaac had a strange look on his face and all three of them were staring intently. "Look, we think you seem pretty cool and we want to make you feel welcome to Beacon Hills. Just say yes? Please?"

I sighed, defeated. "Okay, but I have to at least tell Stiles so he won't worry."

"Awesome. Meet us in the parking lot after school." Erica smiled before turning towards the board.

I walked into the cafeteria alone, not sure who to sit with: the guy I live with, or really nice and welcoming people I just met.

I looked across the room and saw Isaac, Erica, and Boyd. On the other side of the room was Stiles, Scott, Allison, and Lydia. Isaac saw me first and waved me over. About half way to the table, I heard Stiles call me over. I looked back at Isaac and shrugged. He looked a little disappointed but quickly turned back to his friends.

"So, how's your first day of school going, Ryder?" Allison asked.

"Uh, it's okay I guess. A lot different than my old school." I kept my eyes on my hands in my lap, feeling as though I was intruding on there lunch, even though they had invited me over.

"So, Lydia and I were wondering if you wanted to hang out again this weekend. We don't have to necessarily go to the mall, we could just watch movies instead?" Allison gave me a sweet smile, though I could see the pity in her eyes.

"Yeah, sure. That sounds great."

After school, I was walking out the door when I was met by Stiles on my left and Scott on my right.

"Hey, Ryder. How's it going?" Stiles said very weirdly.

"Good...You two are acting strange. Why?"

"We're not acting strange. You're acting strange." Scott said.

"Okay...Um Stiles, I was wondering if I could hang out with-" I started.

"No."

"What?! But you don't even know who I was gonna say!" I replied, still walking.

"Yes, I do. You were gonna say Isaac and his little buddies. And the answer is still no!"

"Why not?" I began to get the feeling they were leading me to the Jeep.

"Because I said so."

"You're not my father."

"I'm close enough."

"You know what." I said stopping. "I don't need your permission. See you at home Stiles." At first, as I was walking away, I felt proud that I had stood up for myself and made my own decision; but then I felt guilty. What had they don't to deserve that? After all, they actually knew these people better than I did.

All of the guilt I had felt drained away as I felt a hand pull me back.

"Stiles, you are not the boss of me-"

"Don't worry. It's just me." Scott said.

"Oh. Sorry." And there's that guilt again.

"Listen. We don't want to control you but we also know that Isaac and his friends? They're bad news."

"What do you mean bad news?"

"Just trust me okay?"

"No, Scott! I can't! If you're going to tell me what to do at least give me a reason! Tell Stiles that I'll be home before dinner."

And with that I walked away.
