Marnie's P.O.V
The next morning when I got up, I heard two voices coming from downstairs. I knew one was mom's and the other was a voice I hadn't heard in so long. I went down into the kitchen, only to be greeted by mom and dad talking with each other.
"Dad?" I said. He turned around in his seat to face me. His face lit up when he saw me.
"Marnie! I'm so happy to see you" he said. He got up and walked over to me, giving me a hug. No matter how much I didn't want to, I hugged him back.
"I missed you" dad said
"I missed you too" I said, but not with much enthusiasm.
"Marnie, your father is going to drive you to school today" mom said
"What?" I said, getting out of my father's embrace.
"Your mom and I talked it over and she thought we should have more father and daughter bonding. We can start by having me drive you to school everyday" dad said
"Yay" I said
"It'll be fun Marnie" dad said
"Harold, remember we're still in for dinner tonight" mom said
"We're going out to dinner?" I said
"Just Lydia and I. You can spend time with your friend. I believe Lydia said her name was Lola" dad said
"Why can't I stay home alone?" I asked
"Because last time you were left alone, I found all the windows broken" mom said
"Why were all the windows broken?" dad asked
"She was trying to play baseball but with rocks instead of an actual ball" mom said
"Come on mom. That's when I was young and stupid" I said
"That was three months ago!" mom said.
"Alright. I think I should take you to school now" dad said. I nodded and grabbed my bag.
"Have a good day at school sweetie. Go straight to Lola's after your piano lessons" mom said
"You got it mom" I said. Dad and I made our way outside and to his car.
~
I kept looking out the window while dad kept on driving. I didn't know what to say to him. It's been awhile since we've spoken to each other or seen each other.
"I didn't know you took piano lessons" dad said
"Yeah. My music history teaches me. He lives right next door" I said
"Well that's nice of him. Got any boyfriends I should know about?" dad said
"No!" I said
"Alright. Just making sure. I just want to make sure that my little girl isn't getting her heart broken" dad said. I smiled at his caring attitude for me.
"I'm really sorry to hear about you and Wendy" I said
"It's alright" dad said
"What happened between you two?" I asked
"The spark just wasn't there any more. I guess it wasn't helping that I kept talking about Lydia every chance I got" dad said
"Why?" I asked
"I still love your mom, it just took me awhile to realize that. That's what this dinner is for. I want to try and reconnect with her" dad said
"Well... I hope you do. I'd like for you to stick around more" I said
"I'll be around for a long time, honey" dad said. He pulled up in front of the school.
"How about I pick you up and take you to your piano lessons?" dad said. I looked at him and smiled.
"Sure" I said
"Alright then. Have a good day. I love you" dad said.
"I...uh...love you too" I said. I got out of the car and was greeted by Lola. I heard my dad drive off.
"Was that your dad?" Lola asked
"Yeah. He's moving in with mom and I" I said
"After what he did to both of you?" Lola asked
"Well, he's actually trying to be my father, and now that he and Wendy are divorced, he's going to try to reconnect romantically with mom" I said
"If that was my dad, I wouldn't even look him in the eye anymore" Lola said
"I'm afraid to look your dad in the eye. If I do, he'll flirt with me" I said, shuddering at the thought.
"Yeah, it's gross" Lola said. Lola and I kept talking until I bumped into someone.
"I'm sorry Miss Rowe" I heard Mr.McCartney. I looked at him and smiled.
"It's alright Mr. McCartney. I was paying more attention to Lola than in front of me. See you in class" I said. Before I could walk away, Mr. McCartney grabbed my wrist.
"Actually, can you come to my class for a minute? I need to speak with you" he said. I looked at Lola and she was looking at me with a smirk.
"Alright. I'll see you at lunch Lola" I said
"You too" Lola said, adding a wink before walking away. Paul then led me to his classroom.
~
Once we got to his classroom, he closed the door behind him.
"What do you need to talk about?" I asked, taking a seat in one of the desks.
"It's about yesterday" Paul said
"What happened yesterday?" I asked
"During your piano lessons, I tried to kiss you" Paul said. Ah ha, so he admits it! I just crossed my arms and leaned back in my seat.
"Really? I didn't notice" I said with a sarcastic tone
"This is serious Marnie! I shouldn't be kissing me you. You're my student. Can you just forget that it ever happened?" Paul said. But I wanted you to kiss me. That's what I really wanted to say.
"Alright. I promise I won't tell anyone what happened" I said. Paul trapped me in a hug.
"Thank you Marnie. You know, you're one of my favorite students" Paul said. Really? You just admit that you tried to kiss me and then tell me to forget about it, and now you're hugging me and telling me I'm your favourite student. Buddy, you're asking for a kiss.
"And you're my favourite teacher" I said. Paul released me from his hug.
"I guess I should let you get to your first class" Paul said
"Yeah. I'll see you sixth period" I said. I walked to the door and opened it. I turned my head to look at Paul.
"Mr. McCartney?" I said
"Yes Marnie" Paul said
"My dad is driving me to piano lessons so you don't have to" I said. The smiled on his face, changed to a frown.
"Oh, thanks for letting me know" Paul said
"No problem" I said. I left the classroom and made my way to Environmental Studies.
