Marnie's P.O.V
When I came back, Paul was wearing his robe and holding two cups of tea.
"Are you okay to spend the night?" Paul asked
"I left a note for my mom. I don't think she'll mind" I said. Paul smiled and walked towards me.
"I made you some tea" he said. I smiled and took the tea from him.
"Thank you" I said
"How about I start up a fire and then we can cuddle?" Paul said
"That sounds lovely" I said
~
Here Paul and I were, cuddling by the fire. It was nice just to be alone with Paul. His arms were wrapped around me while I was seated in between his legs, leaning against him.
"Marnie?" Paul said
"Yeah?" I replied
"I love you" Paul said
"I love you too" I said. I turned my head so that I was looking at him. He leaned in and his lips touched mine. We continued to kiss until I felt sick to my stomach. I pulled away from him, stood up and ran to the bathroom, clutching my stomach. I made it just in time. After a couple minutes of vomiting into the toilet, there was a knock on the door.
"Are you alright, love?" Paul asked
"Yeah" I said but vomited again, "no I'm not"
"May I come in?" Paul said
"Yes" I said. The door opened and in walked Paul. I felt myself about to vomit again. Paul must have known because he crouched beside me and held my hair back for me. He began rubbing my back.
"Do you want to see a doctor?" Paul asked
"Paul, it's probably nothing. It's just an upset stomach" I said
"What if it's not? What if your getting a flu? What if you're..." Paul said, trailing off.
"What if I'm what?" I asked
"What if you're pregnant?" Paul asked. Paul was right. It could have been possible. Maybe a trip to the doctor was a good idea.
"Alright. I'll go see a doctor" I said
"That's my girl. Come on. I'll take you" Paul said. He grabbed my hand and helped me up.
"Paul, what if I am pregnant? What am I supposed to tell my parents?" I asked
"We'll figure something out, love" Paul said
~
Paul and I were patiently waiting the results of the tests the doctor performed on me. Paul held my hand and stroked the back of it with his thumb. After what seemed like hours, the doctor finally came back.
"Miss Rowe, I have some news for you" the doctor said
"What is it?" I asked.
"You're pregnant. You have been for about a week now" the doctor said. Paul and I looked at each other. He had the biggest smile on his face.
"I understand you're seventeen" the doctor started. I knew exactly where he was heading with this.
"Doctor, if you're going to suggest getting an abortion, I'm not going for it" I said. The doctor nodded.
"I am going to have to call your parents though" the doctor said
"No!" both Paul and I said. The doctor quizzically between us.
"Why not?" the doctor asked.
"Well my dad isn't home and my mom is busy working so she won't answer the phone. Besides, we were hoping to tell them ourselves" I said
"We just want to figure out what to say first" Paul said
"Are you two married?" the doctor asked. Both Paul and I shook our heads.
"You two should consider marriage. At least for the baby's sake" the doctor said
"But I'm still in school! I can't get married yet" I said
"And yet you're pregnant. I'm needed elsewhere. Take care" the doctor said. The doctor left, leaving Paul and I again.
"How are we supposed to tell my parents?" I said
"We'll figure something out. Let's head home, yeah?" Paul said. I nodded. We both got up and left.
~
Throughout the ride home, Paul kept really quiet. I began to worry. Did he not want this baby? He seemed pretty happy about it at the doctor's. Once we got inside the house, I decided to say something to him.
"Paul, do you want me to have this baby?" I asked. He looked to me and grabbed both of my hands in his.
"Yes! I want us to have this baby! You don't know how much I've wanted to be a father. Why would you ask such a thing" Paul said
"It's just that you were so quiet in the car" I said
"I was just thinking about what the doctor said. It wouldn't be right to raise the baby with unmarried parents" Paul said. Still holding onto my hands, he got down on one knee.
"Paul, what are you doing?" I asked
"Marnie, I know we've only known each other for a week or two but it feels like I've known you for my whole life. I don't care that you're my student or eight years younger than me. I'm in love with you Marnie Rowe and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" Paul said. I stared at him blankly for a moment while he waited for an answer from me.
"Can I ask you something Paul?" I said
"Of coarse, my love" Paul said
"Do want me to marry you because you feel like you have to because of the baby or do you want to marry me because you really do love me?" I asked
"Marnie, I want to marry you because I love you. I don't care how long we've known each other. I can see myself spending the rest of my life with you. Please marry me, Marnie. I love you and I promise I'll never break your heart" Paul said. I could see in his eyes that he meant every word he spoke.
"Yes. I will marry you Paul" I said. He smiled, stood up and pulled me into a kiss.
"Come with me" Paul said, pulling me to the door.
"Where are we going?" I asked
"We're going to go tell your mother" Paul said
