Since many of my readers asked, I wrote a one-shot of their meeting from Jai's perspective :) This was fun to do, and I would love to hear if you have any other scenes you'd like to see in Jai's point of view! I hope you all enjoy it!
Despite her calm posture, the girl who sat before me in an almost meditative state was buzzing with anxious energy. Her face scrunched, and unscrunched as she took deep breaths in a steady rhythm. Time was moving around her, and yet in her anxiety she was trapped. Never before had I seen someone with such innocent features, wrapped up into so much inner turmoil. She was fascinating to observe, sitting there in her contradiction. I couldn't help but stare at her.
When she opened a deep set of golden eyes, her perfect lips parted to let out a gasp. I couldn't help the shit eating grin that grew on my face. She looked at me like I was the manifestation of her worst dreams; a walking nightmare. I expected her to run from me, or at the very least back up against the trailer.
"You look familiar," I said, scratching my chin.
Her eyes widened, ""I'm ummm ... Amelia... Miles's sister."
She bravely reached a hand out to me, though I could see her knees wobble when she took the step towards me.
"You look like the female version of him. Same hair, and face. More attractive though." I broke the distance between us to reach for her hand.
Her cheeks grew a shade of red, I wanted to get more familiar with. "Thank you...?"
"Jai," My grip was firm, and she had to wriggle her hand free.
"Nice to meet you," She said more out of politeness, then meaning.
With a wink, I chuckled. "Sure about that? You seem like you want to run from me."
Since the moment she freed her hand, she'd taken several steps backwards and stood at an angle. Yet at the same time, she kept her eyes on my own. There was intrigue behind them, as if she wasn't quite done getting to know the villain in front of her. Somewhere hidden in that innocent facade was a strong woman, one I was determined to meet.
"You're quite intimidating," She said, tugging at her hair. "And I'm not sure if it's the character ensemble or because you're massive."
As she bit on her lip, I imagined them crashed against my own. A taste of them could only satisfy my curiosity. "Massive, don't think a girl has ever called me that outside of the bedroom."
Cocking an eyebrow she pretended to look offended, but she smiled, "No wonder you and my brother get along so well. You're both cocky sons of bitches."
The mouth on her, just continued to get better. I loved the bite in her tone, the teasing laced with malice. She continued to contradict every judgement I made. The girl who sat moments before, crunched in anxiety was not afraid of me. At least not anymore. Her bravery grew, when I allowed a smile to cross my face. She took another step closer.
"So you're brother's mentioned me? Hopefully, good things."
"He told me you were a cook guy, but he didn't mention you were as big as the Hulk," She craned onto her tiptoes, attempting to make herself as large as me. She failed to get very far, and for that I found her adorable.
"Did he mention that I was single," I asked.
Her bravery ended an inch away from me, and the cocky side of me closed the gap. I moved slowly, watching her breath hitch in her throat. One wrong move, and we'd be taking steps back. She looked up towards the clouds, as if trying to recall any mention of me.
"Not that I can think of," She said, a moment later.
"He didn't mention if you were single either," I pointed out.
Of course, he hadn't bothered to mention he had a sister at all. He kept that secret close to the chest, only allowing a select few people to get to know her. I was offended, not sure why I hadn't made the list. Miles and I had grown as friends on set, and surely it wouldn't kill me to know he had a sister. I took it as an insult, that he feared I would hurt her in some way.
In the end it wasn't Amelia he was attempting to protect, it was me. He didn't want me to meet her because somehow he knew I'd fall hard for her. He knew I'd be seduced by the challenge she created for me. But he also knew that she was incapable of letting anyone love her. She was damaged in more ways than what appeared on the surface, but damnit if that didn't make me want her more.
"Hmmm, my brother can be protective like that," She responded to my statement. "Although when he thinks someone could be a match for me, he does tell them."
I couldn't have known the lie that fell from her lips at the time, but I rubbed the back of my neck in disappointment. "That's a shame, maybe I will have to talk to him about that."
She chewed on that bottom lip again, making me want her more. "Maybe."
The set was calling me, but I didn't want to leave her. I gave her a nod, afraid if I attempted to shake her hand again she'd run off. As I walked away, I felt her eyes on me watching me go.
