You slowly got off the bus and went up to the house. You had managed to keep out of sight of your dad for the rest of the day, which was easy considering the fact that he left after lunch, but now you had to confront him. And the wrecked outfit. Ohhhh, he was gonna be furious.

You opened the door and quietly called out an 'I'm home'. Your dad swept in from the other room, a bright smile on his chiseled features, wearing a green hoodie and jeans. "Hey, snowflake. How was school? The parts I didn't see, I mean."

He hugged you up and you immediately felt worse. At least he was in a good mood. You slowly broke the hug. "It was good... Um... About the costume..."

"I know dear." He gently caressed your cheek. "I can fix it. Don't worry."

You nodded, smiling, and dropped the plastic grocery bag with costume in it. You know you should've been happy, but just, everything that had happened and that had been happening weighed down on you...

And you burst into tears.

"Oh!" Tom gasped, sweeping you up bridal style and holding you close. He gently cooed to you and went into the living room. He sat on the couch, rocking you gently. "Oh. Oh, it's okay. What's wrong?"

You sobbed into his chest like you had when you were younger, unable to form words. He kissed your forehead and rubbed your back as you sobbed, and a soft, gentle warmth filled you. You finally calmed down enough to talk, though the tears still flowed hot and fresh.

"Daddy, they're so mean! The teachers don't see, they don't understand, and Dawn tries to help but they still hurt me!" You murmured hopelessly.

Tom continued to rock you, listening. You continued to tell him about how cruel those girls were, how tough school was, and the real truth about your (lack of) friends. Tom had gentle understanding on his face the entire time, and eventually you felt warmth flood through you. A gentle, calming warmth that made you feel complete.

Your dad loved you.

"Don't worry, snowflake." He rubbed noses with you. "I'll fix it all. I promise."

And of course, you had full belief he would. And it completed you.
