I stared at the clock which was mounted on the wall of the lonely isolation room. Time went by slowly and I sat back in my chair remembering todays antics. They had pushed me and pushed me, teasing me and asking for a fight and that's exactly what I did. The victim was now in hospital, her lesson learned. Its not the first time I'd done it and most days I found myself back in the same room, nobody daring to enter in case I 'attacked' them too. I would be here for most of the night. Not that I was going anywhere anyway, my parents had died a few years ago and I swore from that day on I would never love anybody again. I had built my walls so high that no one could climb in. The place I called 'home' was an orphanage were I had learned to fight for what I wanted or I wouldn't get it. Tonight I wouldn't go back there. Anything but the orphanage.
Time went by slowly and I began to get comfortable enjoying the quiet, when the door burst open. A thin boy around my age and a stressed teacher entered in a hurry. The boy took a seat while the teacher screamed in his face, pointing a threatening finger at him.
"I don't know who you think you are young man, but you're not going anywhere near students in this school until you calm yourself down!" The teacher screamed slamming the door behind her.
I looked over at the boy. He had the most beautiful deep brown eyes I had ever seen, that stared at the ground as if he was oblivious to my presence. A thick mop of brown hair skimmed over his forehead messed up in a sort of perfect way. Something about this boy intrigued me, I had never felt this way about somebody I hadn't even talked to.
I stared at the boy for what seemed like ages when his head sharply snapped up and his dark eyes became aggresive.
"Do you mind staring at me girl?!" He growled at me in a deep voice. I tried to keep my calm but it failed and I shouted back to the boy with anger in my voice.
"Well I'm sorry if someone has just decided to invade my personal space!"
The boy stood up and towered over me using his height to intimidate me.
"Excuse me, I didn't ask you to talk," he spoke slowly yet firmly, so I could hear him. I stood up to face the boy trying to scare him off, it didn't work as I was much smaller than him, but I didn't back down.
My emotions got the better of me and without thinking I used all my strength to slap him across the cheek. He bent over clutching his cheek cursing quietly. He then stood up breathing heavy looking at me as if I was a piece of dirt. He raised his hand and I braced myself, but the blow didn't come. The boy stood looking at me blinking, his hand still in mid air.I looked at him with so much confusion, not understanding what was going on. He dropped his hand and turned his back on me walking away to where he was previously sitting. I wanted to shout back and challenge him, but something about him made me relax. It was as if I had known this stranger all my life.
I walked over to him cautiously. I was going to try and talk to the boy but I needed to be aware, getting to know someone always meant an ending. I couldn't set my hopes too high because every hello ends with a goodbye. I sat next to him, he turned his face revealing his now bright red cheek and half-heartedly smiled. For the first time I had seen this boy, he smiled. I returned the favour and we sat akwardly for a few minutes. Finally he broke the silence speaking in a calm voice, the complete opposite to last time.
"I'm sorry about before." He said, his voice quiet.
"I should be the one apologizing I shouldn't havehit you like that," I admitted.
"Its okay," he smiled "I wasn't expecting someone so small to stand up to me like that!"
"Hey!" I playfully shoved his shoulder "don't push it."
"I think we have got off on the wrong start, why don't we start over again?" He suggested.
"I would love to," I smiled "I'm Jess."
"George," he said.
All I know is we said hello and your eyes looked like coming home.
