A whole week had gone by without Jess. A whole week of not hearing her voice or her laugh. A whole week without knowing I was the one who made her smile. A whole week of misery. But I knew that, although I was hurting bad and cried every time I neared the beautiful girl that lay there, I had to stay strong. She needed me there to support her and give her the strength to wake up. I wondered why Jess had chosen me, the boy that thinks its all going right and then it crashes down on top of him. I wonderd why she chose to stay with me. Why didn't she just walk out like everybody else? But most of all I wondered if she would still feel safe with me after this.

I began to worry about mine and Jess' future, so I decided to forget about that situation and focus on what had happened throughout the week. After many painful stitches and argument with doctors over Jess, I was finally allowed to begin gentle exercise. The hospital explained that the glass had hit my head along with other debris, causing mild problems with my head, that were easily manageable. The treatment was painful and usually took away most of my energy. However unlike the other patients undergoing this treatment I refused to rest until I had saw Jess and made sure she was okay. Whenever I saw her the tears began and I couldn't bring myself to seak a word without feeling choked. It was hard and I was terrified, because I had never felt this way about anybody before. My routine had began to take its toll and despite the doctors best efforts, I began loosing weight and health. The staff in the hospital forced me to rest for 48 hours, forbidding me to go and see Jess until I was looking stronger. Even Sams dailly visits to me were stopped until my health improved. Sam had been trying tirelessly to wake Jess up, doing anything that seemed reasonable. Playing her favourite music, talking about me and even reading her books, but Jess didn't show any signs of life. I felt bad, as through my whole stay at the hospital I had only tried to wake Jess up once and my attempt had failed. I felt scared and intimidated to try again in case she didn't wake up and I had to choose the other option. Switch off the life machine that was holding on to the only piece of Jess we had left.

We had actually considered switching off the life machine, before Sam talked to me that dat. He pulled me aside and told me to listen closely. He had a plan. I listened intently as he went through it, I knew this was make or break and had to be done perfectly no mistakes.

When I knew the plan I attempted to gather myself togetheri was dressed in normal clothes that Sam had brought me and I carried with me, my guitar. Taking a deep breath I opened up the door that held Jess and allowed one slow tear to roll down my cheek. I took her hand in mine and looked at her lifeless, vunerable face.

"Hi Jess, we haven't spoken in a while." My voice came out shaky, clearly upset "its George."

I count my footsteps, hoping the floor won't fall through again.
