These were Zaina's best days in her life. It might be because she had gone through a lot in her past. She was always with a cheery smile now. Funny texts from Rifa, Shaifa and Haya and sweet memories she had in the recent past were the reasons for her cheery attitude.
But her smile didn't last long until she hear her Mom yelling over the phone in the downstairs. Zaina, tiptoed towards downstairs to overhear the quarrel her mom's and the opposition is having.
"Enough is enough Hassan! We have to talk about this. Things are getting out of hand. Celebrating birthday party is itself prohibited in islam! Those people are not even following the basic concept of islam. Who knows about the other things they'll do in the upcoming future huh? I don't think this will work! We'll call off the wedding. What'll people talk about our family! You come over here, we'll talk about this!"
Zaina understood the problem. This time her heart was going to shatter into zillion pieces. She knew it. Tears started pouring down her eyes. This was the problem with Zaina. Her heart was too sensitive to bear all these heavy words, but unfortunately, sometimes emotions and feelings empower a person.
She ran. Ran to her room. Made wudhu and turned to Allah. Prayed two rakat, Seated in the musallah and her hands were raised in the air. And now she didn't know what to ask. She had lots of things in her mind, but she found it hard to bring it into words. Finally, than asking Allah to make this marriage work, she asked Allah to make things easy for her.
She heard someone ringing the door bell, and Zaina was sure that it must be her father.
The dream I saw that day might be a hint for something like this thought Zaina.
"Zaina! Zaina! Come down, we have something to discuss with you" she heard her Mom calling her and Zaina headed towards the hall where her Ma and Dad were sitting. While with every single breathe she was reciting:
"Allahumma la sahla illaa maa ja'althahu sahlan wa antha thaj'alul hazna idha shi'tha sahlaa"
(It was a dua recited to make things easy)
"Assalamu alaikum Pa" Zaina greeted her dad and saw her dad was looking at her with pitiful eyes, and at the same time her Mom was looking at her, annoyed.
"Wa alaikum wassalam Zain! Come! Sit!" He said by patting the seat next to him. Zaina went and sat near him.
"Listen! What i was thinking is that Hafiya's family seems to lack islamic culture! They celebrate birthday parties and we don't know about how their upcoming behaviors will be. Culture matters a lot to me! I don't want people to talk ill about me just because I got this girl in marriage with that family ok!" By saying so Zaina's mother snapped at her dad and her.
Zaina patiently looked down, while her father started speaking.
"Sameera! What are you talking? You are the one brought this proposal up. And now you are talking something else! I'm sure that I did a good analysis over that family and so far no one didn't speak ill of them!" Said Hassan.
"Is that so? But I told my friends about this stupid birthday party of hers! They mocked and warned me that there'll be future issues and I dont find anything wrong in what they say! Ok?" Half-yelled Sameera.
Two tears escaped Zaina's eyes and she quickly wiped it. She realized that things were growing worse.
"Is it? Then you should have inspected about their family carefully! You didn't do that! Now you are playing with her feelings." Hassan started yelling at Zaina's mom.
"What feelings? All nonsense! For me my dignity matters alot! Got it! If you want to get her married to that family means, first kill me and carryon with the wedding preparations!" Sobbed Zaina's mother by starting her emotional drama.
"Pa! I don't want your'll to fight over this! If Ma doesn't want this marriage to work means we'll call off the wedding. I don't want to marry by hurting her and without her blessings. No problem!" Spoke Zaina in a cracky voice and ran to her bed and burst into tears.
She could hear her dad's voice behind her, but she didn't turn back, her mom and dad were fighting over this issue. Everything is over now.
She fell into the pillow and sobbed harder.
And then she felt something hard poking her neck. To see it was nothing other than The chain Hakam gifted her.
