-The rain dripped down from the grey clouds above. I slowly walked down the cold sidewalk, winding in and out of buildings. I had nowhere to go, no one to love me, no will to go on.
A pair of cold hands suddenly gripped my shoulder and turned me around. I stood face to face with a tall, dark shadowy figure. There was no face but it just stood there. I tried to move, but I was paralyzed. It pulled me closer and closer and leaned into my paling face, gently kissing my forehead.-
I felt myself come back to the real world. My eyes were scrunched shut, and I was scared to the point that I was shaking.
Slowly my eyes peeled open. I saw a shadow slip out the door. The room was completely dark and empty. Ricky had left. I was slightly disappointed that he wasn't there to comfort me when I woke up from my nightmare. But why? I just met him, he's a stranger, and didn't even care about me. He'd probably just laugh in my face and leave.
I sighed, running my fingers through my gross hair. I looked around for my phone. I leaned forward to get out of my bed and gasped in excruciating pain. There was a clipboard at the end of my bed. I slipped it off the holder and read through my list of injuries. Apparently I had four broken ribs and a broken arm. It could be worse, I could be dead. I chuckled; if only. It amused me that until this point I hadn't even noticed my multiple casts.
Right when I put the clipboard back in its rightful place, a nurse slipped through the door.
"How are you feeling?" She asked halfheartedly.
"Fine, when can I go home?"
"Well, if you can get someone to pick you up, you can leave whenever."
I sighed out of relief, I needed a real shower. Then something dawned on me, I had no one to take me home.
"Um, I don't really have a ride home?" I said shyly.
"What about that nice young boy who stayed with you the whole time you were here?" My eyes widened. He stayed the whole time?
"I really don't know him too well. How long have I been here?" She frowned a little.
"It's been three days." Woah, I was out that long?
"If you need anything else, just ring." And with that, she left. I was once again alone.
I sat back into the hospital bed, trying to figure out what I was going to do. A small object caught my eye. My phone was on the nightstand? On top was a small piece of paper. After unfolding it, it read "Sorry I left, I needed to go home. Call me when you're ready to go home." Beneath the message was his number. Great, I was going to have to ask a complete stranger to take me to my house. For all I know, he could be stalking me and I'm gonna end up giving him my address. I groaned and unlocked my now cracked phone. I dialed Ricky's number and waited. Right as it was about to go to voicemail, a groggy voice answered.
"Hello?"
"Um, you told me to call you when I wanted to go home..." I trailed off, waiting for him to laugh and say no.
"Right now? It's three a.m., but alright." I heard shuffling in the background, "I'll be there in ten." I sighed of relief and hung up.
I looked down and realized that I needed to change, oops.
----------
Like Ricky said, he was there in no time. It was a struggle for the nurse to help me into his car, she had refused his help. I was slightly glad about that.
Ricky started to drive off and I looked out the window to pass the time.
"So um, I never got your name..." He trailed off.
"Haley." I said, not taking my eyes off of the passing trees.
"Where do you live?" I looked over at him and was taken aback to realize he was shirtless. I felt my whole face heat up and was glad it was still dark outside. I gave him directions to my apartment and we sat in silence the rest of the way there.
Apparently I had passed out in the car and he had to carry me to my room which was always unlocked. I should probably stop doing that. In my half-awake-half-asleep state I faintly heard Ricky say something.
"I'm gonna uh go now." He moved to turn around and out of nowhere I said something that I immediately regretted.
"Don't leave me." My voice was thick with sleep.
"Okay..." I felt the weight shift in my bed as he climbed in and cuddled up next to me.
For once, sleep came easily and peacefully.
