Not much happens in this chapter, but I have to admit that that will happen a few times. And, I thought I'd mention that I'm going to be writing another fanfic at the same time as this. It's called 'Arianna', but it's a whole lot darker than previous things I've posted on here, so look out for it.......I think I'll write this story now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remus woke up very early the next morning, only to find Tonks was already awake. She was sitting by the window, watching the sun rise. Her hair was pink, but there was streaks of black in here hair. Remus yawned and sat up, rubbing his eyes.
"Morning." Tonks said, if there was sleepiness in her voice, she masked it well.
"You didn't sleep did you?" Remus asked
"No. Well, I slept a bit but not for long." Tonks replied
"Were you scared that you'd have another nightmare?" Remus asked, getting up. He stood behind Tonks, placing his hands on her shoulders. Remus felt her flinch under his touch.
"Every time I closed my eyes I see my parents dying." She said coldly
"Hey. You really don't think I could hurt you do you?"
"It wasn't really you though. The thoughts there. But, I'm trying to forget it, it's hard but I'll get there."
"I promise you, I would never do that to you." Remus said assuringly, kneeling beside her. Tonks sighed before standing up.
"I'm going for some breakfast, I'll see you sometime soon."
Tonks walked out the room without a second glance. Remus could hear her footsteps growing fainter as the distance between them got bigger. He stood up and stretched. As Remus entered the bathroom, he noticed that a cupboard was open slightly. Opening it, he saw various candles inside. A smile broke out on his face. He levitated all the candles out, he lit them and placed them around the bathroom. A mixture of sweet and relaxing smells filled the room. Shadows danced beautifully on the walls. He filled the bath with warm water and scented bubble bath mixture. Once it was ready for use, he quietly went downstairs to get Tonks.
Tonks was sitting quietly at the table, stabbing at her cereal with a spoon.
"You miss, need to relax and forget about the whole thing." Remus said suddenly, causing her to jump, sending her bowl off the table.
"Ah!" Tonks yelled. "Remus? What was that for?"
"I have a surprise for you." He whispered
"Like what?" She asked, forgetting about the mess on the floor.
"Close your eyes, then I'll show you." Remus said softly, a mischievous twinkle in his eye. Tonks slowly closed her eyes.
"Trust me with this. I promise you'll love it." Remus said excitedly. Tonks nodded before slowly and unsteadily standing up. Remus placed a hand on her back and started to guide her towards the stairs. Once there, he knew there would be a problem with getting her up there, without mass destruction.
"I'm going to have to pick you up now. So hold on." Remus said. He gently picked her up and started to slowly walk up the stairs. There were a few times when he almost fell, but he steadied himself and carried on.
"You can open your eyes now." Remus said, placing her back on the floor. Tonks opened her eyes and sighed. They were standing outside the bathroom.
"The bathroom." She said, trying but failing to sound excited. "Yay?"
"That's not the surprise. This, is the surprise."
Remus opened the door, and a wave of sweet smells washed over them. Tonks slowly walked in, smiling as she looked around.
"It's wonderfull!" She cried. "But why did-"
"You just need to relax and calm down. You'll need to since we are going to your parents house today." Remus replied "I'll leave you to it."
Remus went to shut the door, but not before Tonks stopped him. She ran up to him and pressed her lips against his. Wrapping his arms around her, he deepened the kiss.
"Thank you." She sighed happily once the kiss had finished.
"Anytime." Remus said, smiling. "Now, go enjoy it before the water gets cold."
Remus walked back down stairs. Something had been eating away at him for a few days, but he wasn't too sure what. Every time he tried to ignore it, it would instantly eat away at him more. But he knew he'd have to ignore it today. He wanted to get along with Tonks's parents. Ignoring the feeling, he ate his raisin and chocolate toast. Well, it was more chocolate sauce with a side of toast.
It was around half seven when he remembered that Tonks was still in the bath. Remus leapt up the stairs two at a time. He knocked softly on the door and opened it slightly. As he peered in, he saw Tonks lying happily in the bath, eyes closed, hair long and light blond. She was very calm. But she also seemed to be asleep. He creeped towards her and placed a hand softly on her shoulder.
"Tonks." He whispered
Tonks's eyes opened slowly. She blinked and rubbed her eyes several times before noticing Remus was standing there.
"Hey. Enjoy your sleep?" He asked.
Tonks smiled tiredly and nodded.
"Loved it. Thank you." She yawned.
"Merlin's Beard you're freezing!" Remus exclaimed as he touched her cheek. "Come on, I'll help."
Remus put a warm and fluffy purple towel on his shoulder before helping Tonks to stand. He wrapped the towel around her shivering body and lifted her out. Once out, he didn't put her down.
"Would you like to sleep some more or would you like some more food?" He asked
"Sleep some more, only if you stay with me." She replied quietly. As he carried her through to the bedroom, he noticed how pale she was.
"Tonks honey are you feeling alright?"
Tonks shook her head. "I feel sick." She mumbled.
"Maybe you were in the bath for too long." Remus suggested
"Maybe." Tonks agreed.
Once she was in her cozy PJ's, they cuddled under the covers. Remus's body heat heating her up. Remus waved his wand and two hot chocolates appeared from the kitchen.
"Thanks." Tonks said. "But I should be the one getting the hot chocolates"
"You aren't feeling well so you'll do no such thing. And anyway, I want to look after you when you need it."
"I'm fine. Just feeling a little nauseous. I'll be ok soon." Tonk said. "I'm going to get some food."
"Are you sure?" Remus asked
"Yeah. I need to see my parents today and going on an empty stomach won't help." Tonks sighed
"True. Are you wanting to eat downstairs or in bed?"
"Downstairs." Tonks replied. "I think I'll be ok."
Tonks pulled the covers off of herself and shuffled off the bed. She stood unsteadily on her feet, but she stayed up. She walked robotically out of the door and down the stairs. Remus followed a few minutes later. He hurried when he heard a smash from the kitchen. As he entered, he saw Tonks on the floor clearing up a a smashed plate.
"Here let me." Remus said, taking out his wand.
"No I can do it." Tonks cried, a little too aggressively.
"Oh I'm sorry Remus," She sighed when she saw the hurt in his eyes. "It's just I hate the thought of you having to always look out for me and always look after me. And I can't do much for you in return because you can do everything."
"Hey. I don't mind looking out for you. I love you and would hate the thought of anything bad happening to you." Remus said nicely, kneeling next to her.
"Sometimes I just feel like I'm too clumsy and useless. And I love you I really do. But, I'm scared that I'm holding you back." Tonks said quietly.
Remus cupped Tonks's face and kissed her slowly and lightly. But it soon deepened and more meaningful. Tonks placed a hand on Remus chest, she could feel his heart thumping under her fingers. Their lips parted a few minutes later.
"You may be very clumsy and sometimes useless at keeping things in one piece." Remus whispered. "But that's exactly why I'm in love with you."
"But-"
"No buts. You aren't the thing holding me back. The Ministry and my lycanthropy. I love you Tonks. Nothing will change that."
"Really?"
"Really."
Remus hugged Tonks and helped her stand. He sat at the table as Tonks make their second breakfast. Tonks placed the food on the table and sat next to Remus. They ate in happy silence, it was nice, and calm, two things they needed at a time like this. Very soon they were full. Tonks still felt a little sick, but it was bearable and soon forgotten.
"It's about ten. Should we get ready to head over?" Remus asked
"Yeah. My parents are always up early." Tonks replied.
The couple stood up and walked hand in hand up the stairs. They quickly got dressed before brushing their teeth and getting ready to go. Tonks had just done her boots when she heard Remus gasp.
"Are you ok?" She asked
"How are we going to break the news to them about us getting married in a few days, on Saturday?" Remus said quickly
"I'll just tell them how it is." Tonks sighed. "They may not like it, but it's not their choice. It's mine, ours, and we're sticking with it."
"And your mum already sort of knows me so that's a bonus." Remus said
"But you haven't seen each other in years have you?"
".......No, but she might still like me." Remus said hopefully
"Maybe. Come on, let's go." Tonks said.
Tonks walked out the door first. Remus closed and locked the door before catching up with her. They walked to a different quiet street to Disapparate. They decided that it was too dangerous to go to the same alley every time. They could get attacked.
They landed in a wood near a park. It was raining and still early so nobody was around. Tonks started speed walk, not wishing to get any wetter. Remus followed, not knowing where to go. They soon arrived at their destination. Tonks knocked on the door hard, wanting to get inside quickly. The door soon opened. A women with black hair and a kind face stood on the other side.
"Nymphadora?" The women asked
"Hi mum." Tonks said, her hair turning a little redder when she heard her name. "Can we come in?"
Tonks's mum looked over her daughters shoulder and looked at Remus. Her eye widened a little with shock but she said nothing. She stepped to the side and let them in out of the rain. The door closed behind them just as a door opened in front of them.
"Hello Dora." A man said from another doorway.
"Dad!" Tonks squealed. She ran and wrapped her arms around him. Tonks's dad picked her up and spun her around. Remus couldn't help but smile.
"Hi Andromeda. Long time no see." He said to the women behind him.
"Remus Lupin. Didn't think I'd be seeing you again. How long has it been?" Andromeda said
"Too long." Remus replied. Andromeda smiled before squeezing past him. Tonks's dad was eyeing Remus cautiously from the doorway, arm wrapped around his daughter.
"And who might this be?" He asked
"This is Remus Lupin." Tonks said
"And?" Her dad asked. "Why is he here?"
"That's why we are here. We need to talk about something." Tonks said nervously
"Come into the living room then we can talk." Andromeda said warmly. She opened the door and walked in, followed by Tonks. But Ted didn't move. Remus was about to walk in when he was stopped.
"I forgot to introduce myself. I'm Ted, Ted Tonks." Ted said, holding his hand out.
Remus shook it. "Remus Lupin. Nice to meet you sir."
"Good to meet you too" Ted said happily.
Remus sat next to Tonks on a couch. Her parents opposite. Nobody spoke for a while, the silence was so awkward, you could almost feel it.
"So what is it you want to talk about?" Ted asked
"W-we uh......uh.....we wanted to know if it's still ok if your house can be used as a safe house." Tonks said quickly.
"Yeah it's fine. If it means Harry is safe. But that isn't it is it?" Andromeda replied
"No it....it's uh." Remus started
"Sorry Remuus...but can I just ask you something?" Ted asked
"Uh yeah sure." Remus replied, a little more nervous
"Are you a werewolf? I see many scars and I'm just curious." Ted said
"Yes. He is. He was bitten very young." Andromeda answered before Remus could. "We are old friends, remember?"
"That's why I asked. Just making sure he was the same one." Ted said quietly
"Nymphadora, could you please just say what it is you are here for. I'm getting scared by the stalling." Andromeda said, looking straight at her daughter.
Tonks sighed and looked at Remus. He nodded and took her hand comfortably.
"Me and Remus are getting married." Tonks said quickly.
Her parents didn't react. They just sat there, frozen with shock, looking between the couple opposite them, piecing their daughters words together into proper a sentence.
"Well, that was unexpected." Andromeda said, still shocked.
