Tonks woke up the next morning feeling better than she had in ages. It took her a while to remember why, but soon the memories of the night before flooded back. She smiled happily and sighed. Tonks glanced over at the clock on the wall. It was half ten, they had to be at The Burrow at 11!
"Oh shit! Remus, Remus get up." Tonks hissed, shaking him gently. He sniffed as he woke up. Remus sat up, his eyes half closed, hair a mess.
"Morning Dora. Anything the matter?" He asked, hugging her
"We have half an hour to get ready for the Order/Plan meeting at The Burrow." Tonks replied
"Crap. But I just want to spend the day alone with you." Remus sighed
"I know, but we have tomorrow." Tonks replied
"Too far away." Remus said, he hugged her closer again so he could kiss her. "And now we have twenty five minutes left. I'm going for a shower."
Remus kissed her forehead before leaving the room with a towel draped around his waist. It was a few more minutes before Tonks finally managed to drag herself out of bed. She tried to stand up, but just fell back onto the bed, too tired to stand. But with the little time she had once she was up, she just threw the first thing she could grab -that looked nice together- on and ran downstairs, almost falling over her own feet. Bursting through the kitchen door, she tore the cupboards open, looking for bread. Once it was located, she shoved three pieces into the toaster and flicked the switch that would toast them. It had been nearly ten minutes, 11 o'clock was drawing nearer and nearer and the toast wasn't done.
"Hurry up!" Tonks whined at the toaster. It was only that she realized that she hadn't actually turned the toaster on.
"Sorry. I almost fell." Remus said grumpily as he walked through the door.
"Not you, the stupid Muggle toaster." Tonks sighed
"Oh. Merlin's beard we need to go." Remus cried
"B-but the toast." Tonks pouted.
"I'm sure Molly with shove food down out gullets." Remus laughed
Making sure she had her engagement ring on, Tonks took her soon-to-be husbands arm. One second they were in their kitchen. Next, they were in the field next to The Burrow. As they ran, conversation turned to their wedding. That decided that even though it may be moving a little too quickly, they'd like to have the wedding before the month had finished, meaning it would have to be the end of that week, or early next week. They eventually reached The Burrow at exactly 11. Remus knocked breathlessly on the door. They soon heard movement behind the door, but it wasn't opened.
"Who are? Declare your identity and your business here!" A voice yelled bitterly from behind the door. It sounded like a very pissed off Mr Weasley.
"Uh. It's Remus and-and Tonks." Remus panted, hands on his knees.
"Why are you late?" The voice demanded
"We slept in." Tonks replied.
Silence.
"How did you two get together?" A women's voice pipped up from behind the door. Molly.
Remus and Tonks exchanged nervous glances before answering.
"Kiss in the rain." They replied at the same time, smiling.
"It's them Arthur." Molly hissed. "Oh for heavens sake."
The door swung open to reveal many people crowded round the door, wands drawn, grim expressions on their faces.
"Hi." Remus said awkwardly.
"Come in come in. We thought we'd wait for you two." Molly said happily, ushering them in. They went and sat at the dining table, food in the middle. Remus gave Tonks a I-told-you-so look. She shrugged in reply before turning her attention to the meeting. It seemed so odd and quiet without Dumbledore, but it was something they'd have to get use to. Moody started to pace around the room.
"So we all know our positions for getting Harry here safely?" Moody asked grumpily
Everyone grunted for an answer.
"It will be ok though won't it. I mean, Harry with be ok?" Hermione asked
"Possibly. I think it's best we try to think positive." Molly said, sadness in her tone
"It'll be fine Molly. We can do this. Though there is no promise it'll go exactly to plan, but we have a high chance of succeeding." Remus said, trying to reassure Molly, but it sounded more like he was trying to reassure himself.
The rest of the meeting went by slowly. They went over the plan and backup plans many many times. But they knew it was essential if they wanted Harry to arrive safely. It was quarter to two when the meeting finally finished. Fred and George were the first to leave. Then Ron and Hermione went back upstairs followed by Bill and Fleur, Mundungus and Hargrid then left. Kingsley hadn't been able to make it, but someone would run things over with him when they could. The only ones left downstairs discussing things was Moody, Molly, Arthur, Tonks and Remus.
"Yeah I'm pretty sure my parents will help." Tonks said. "I'll ask later today and let you know as soon as I can. You'll get my message by Patronus."
"Thank you Nymphadora." Moody grunted. Tonks glared at him, hair and eyes turning red.
"Don't, call me. Nymphadora." She said angrily, her glare not easing. Remus put and arm around her and leaned in close.
"I take it same goes for me." He whispered
"Indeed it does." She replied, smiling. A piece of fringe got in her eye and she used her hand to swipe it away. But Molly took her hand instantly when she saw the ring.
"Is..is that what I think it is?" She asked, suddenly getting excited. Not even noticing that Moody left.
"Yeah." Remus said happily.
"Congratulations! Tonks. You need to tell me everything." Molly cried, taking Tonks's arms and pulling her away so they couldn't be heard. Arthur smiled at Remus. Tonks gave Remus a please-help-me look, but he just smiled and shook his head.
"You really love her don't you." Arthur said
"I really do. I wasn't so sure at first but, we just get on so well. Bring out another side in each other." Remus sighed happily, gazing at Tonks.
"When did you propose?" Arthur asked
"Last night. Took her out for dinner at a very nice Muggle restaurant. I almost pissed myself I was so nervous." Remus chuckled
"Don't you think......it's moving a little too quick. I mean, it hasn't even been a month I don't think and you're already getting married. Speaking of which, when are you thinking of getting married?"
"Later this week or early next week." Remus replied. "Yes I know it's moving fast but, in these times Arthur, can we really afford to wait? And with my condition and the laws and restrictions surrounding it I might not be able to get married. I know shes always wanted to get married and, I just want her to be happy. Because I really do love her, more than anything." Remus said with a sad, very distant and unfocused look in his eyes. Arthur grasped his shoulder, Remus smiled, but you could see the sadness in his eyes.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Molly dragged Tonks over to the living room and waited eagerly to hear everything once they had sat down.
"Where do you want me to start?" Tonks asked, fiddling with a bit of loose stitching on her cloak.
"Everything. Just, everything." Molly replied excitedly.
"Well, yesterday we needed to go food shopping. And just as we started he said he needed to go to the toilet, I wasn't too happy about being left alone in a Muggle store, but he said he'd make it up to me. But, he was away for half an hour and I was getting really worried. But then he came strolling along like nothing had happened, saying that there had been a very long line, but there wasn't one that I could see." Tonks paused, needing to catch her breath. "So, then we went home and a few hours later I came downstairs and he was looking adorable smart and he told me we were going out for dinner."
"Aaaaww." Molly squealed
"Remus took me to a French restaurant, it was great because I haven't been out for dinner since I was a little girl. So we are just talking and laughing when out dessert comes. Now, this is when Remus gets down on one knee......"
"Uh huh." Molly said excitedly
"And starts tying his shoe lace."
"Oh." Molly said, very disappointed.
"I ask what he's doing and he just casually says, (I did not say it casually, I was very nervous - Remus) that he's fixing his shoe. Thinking nothing of it I turn back to my ice cream. That's when I noticed he'd stop fixing his shoe but was still on one knee. Remus starts say how things have been going really well and that he really loves me....then he takes out the ring and asks me to marry him."
"That's beautiful. What happened after that?"
"I said yes, after a few seconds of being shocked." Tonks chuckled. "I didn't want to keep him waiting incase he thought I'd reject him."
"You aren't wrong. I thought you were going to say no." Remus laughed, running his hand through his hair.
"What, really?"
"Yeah. I was thinking 'Crap, she's gonna say no and I'm gonna look like a right idiot.'."
"Aw." Tonks sighed, walking over to hug him.
"When are you planning to have the wedding?" Molly asked
"Later this week or early next week. Hopefully before we rescue Harry or the month is over." Tonks replied
"Isn't that moving too fast?" Molly asked
"That's what Arthur said. But as I said, I'm not sure we can wait that much longer. You know how the Ministry is with people....people like me, and I just want Dora to be happy." Remus sighed.
Tonks smiled and hugged him tighter.
"It's going to be small so we don't draw too much attention to ourselves. Would, would you guys like to come?" Tonks asked
"We'd love to." Arthur said happily. "Just let us know when."
"Will do."
"Well we'd best be off. Busy day ahead." Remus sighed
"Ok thanks for helping us plan how to save Harry. And good luck with planning with your wedding." Molly said, pulling them into a ribs cracking hug.
"We'll get in touch soon." Remus said.
The couple quickly left through the door, and once they were at the right place, they Disapperated. They landed in the usual alley near their house and quickly walked inside. Tonks sunk into the sofa and sighed.
"Are you ok?" Remus asked, sitting next to her and taking her hand.
"I think we need to see my parents. They need to know about the wedding." Tonks said quietly.
"When do you want to go?" Remus asked
"Today or tomorrow, it needs to be soon."
"We could go tomorrow." Remus suggested.
"That would be better. And, we need to get planning." Tonks said excitedly
"Yes we do."
They spent the rest of the day planning. They were very close finishing the guest list and food list, when they noticed the time.
"Should we call it a night?" Remus asked.
Tonks only yawned in reply. Remus chuckled when he saw that.
"Carry me." She said sleepily. Remus sighed before picking her up. Tonks almost instantly fell asleep in his arms. As he carried her up the stairs, she started to slip in his arms, and she placed her hand on his chest. She limply grabbed his shirt in his hands, sending shivers down his spine. Remus placed her on the bed, but she wouldn't let go. Even as he tried to move away, she gripped it tighter. Sighing, he slowly took his shirt off, being careful that he didn't wake her. Once his shirt was off, Tonks hugged it tighter and rolled over. Remus kissed her forehead softly before lying next to her. As he settled down, he noticed her hair slowly turning black, her breathing becoming short and rapid. Her grip on the shirt became tighter and tighter, until her knuckles started turning white. Just as Remus touched her shoulder to shake her awake, her eyes snapped open suddenly. When she lay eyes on Remus, she jumped away with fright, falling heavily into the floor.
"Tonks. Tonks it's ok it's over I'm not going to hurt you." Remus said desperate, holding her shoulders, looking feeling into her frightened eyes. Tonks seem to have realized she was in no danger as she tried to slow her breathing down. Her started to go a pink/blue colour. Tonks tried to calm herself, but she couldn't, tears welled up in her eyes and ran like rivers down her face. Remus pulled her into a hug, her arms wrapped around him as she sobbed, her shoulders shaking, face buried in his chest.
"I thought you were going to kill me. It was our wedding and, it was a full moon. You started to transform but I stopped you and you got mad at me. You tried to tear me and everyone else apart. It was so scary, it felt so real." Tonks sobbed
"It was only a dream it's not real. I'd never hurt you." Remus assured. "I could never hurt you like that."
"It felt like it was real." Tonks sniffed, calming down slightly. Remus leaned back and cupped her face. Her face was streaked and sticky with tears. He pulled her closer and kissed her lovingly on the lips.
"You ok?" He asked as he held her close again.
"I am now." She whispered.
Remus carried her back to bed.
"Remus?" Tonks said quietly, he could still hear the fear in her voice.
"Yeah." Remus replied
"I know this may sound strange but, could, could you hold me. I don't want to be alone." Tonks asked
"Of course I will." Remus replied softly. "Come here."
Tonks shuffled over so her head rested on Remus's chest. Protective arms held her close. Remus tilted her chin so their lips could meet briefly.
"I'll protect you tonight." Remus whispered in her ear.
"Thank you." She replied.
Her breathing wasn't quite back to normal yet, but it slowed as she fell back asleep. She didn't need to worry about the nightmare coming back, because she knew she was safe with Remus, she'd always be safe with him......
