Dipper did all he could to accept the fact that Wendy had someone else, but he couldn't help but feel unbelievably awkward whenever Danny came to pick her up. He was still good friends with her, of course, but there was always a hole in his heart that refused to go away.
A few days went by, and Dipper was on the roof like he always was after work now. He opened up a can of Pitt Cola, sat on the edge, and stared out at the distant cliffs. Mabel came through the hatch and quietly sat next to him.
"Dipper," she said carefully, "Are you still upset about Wendy?" He sighed, ashamed of his own foolishness. "Yes," he admitted. "But, why though? You were never this down about it when she was dating Robbie," she said. Dipper turned his head away. "I don't know, maybe it's because I was expecting too much? Or that they're perfect together?" he said solemnly. She looked at her brother with sympathy, not sure whether to keep her distance or comfort him.
"Awkward sibling hug?" she suggested with arms wide. He turned to face her, and couldn't help but smile at the gesture. "Awkward sibling hug," he agreed. She hugged him hard, though he was little more than a limp noodle at first, but eventually clinging to her desperately. They embrace for a few moments, then went back to staring at the horizon. "I'll get over it soon, don't worry," Dipper said finally. Mabel smiled. "Don't you worry, bro bro, I'll find you a new honey!" she said in a light tone, shooting up from her spot and pointing at him dramatically. He chuckled and said, "Thanks, Mabel." With that, she left her brother to be alone again. He just couldn't think anymore.
"Man I thought she'd never leave!" said a familiar voice as Dipper had taken a sip of his soda, causing him to cough violently. Bill Cipher had floated down near him, resting his head on his hands. Once Dipper could breathe again, he exclaimed quietly, "What the hell are you doing here?! At least keep your voice down!"
"I just thought I'd come stop by!" said Bill, floating on his back off the roof in front of Dipper, not bothering to lower his voice. Dipper sighed. There was probably no getting rid of him for the time being. He got a Pitt Cola from the cooler and begrudgingly threw it at him, then sat back down in his spot. Bill stepped onto the roof now in curiosity. When he caught the soda, his face lit up.
"Human soda! I haven't had this in ages!" He exclaimed while opening it. He laughed and poured it all over his face. Dipper's mood lightened for a moment as he watched the weirdo 'drink' and took a sip himself.
"You know, I like these human things, I think I'll stay here for a while!" he said, putting his free hand on his hip. "Here...?" Dipper said carefully, suspicious of the meaning. "Yeah! Here! The mystery shack!" he replied, arms spreading wide.
"But won't people know who you are?! No one is going to trust you!" Dipper argued. He didn't even really trust him. "You didn't know who I was until I showed you my true form! No one's gonna catch on," he replied. Dipper was about to retaliate with, 'if you like human things so much, why don't you go into town and leave this family alone for once?!' but then he realized that would be worse; there was no telling what chaos he would cause, not to mention all the people that could be potential witnesses/victims. Actually, they might end up tearing him apart if they knew he was still alive. At least here, Dipper could make sure he didn't do anything crazy, or reveal his identity and/or powers. He took it upon himself to contain Bill to the Mystery Shack. Plus, if he did something bizarre here, everyone would just think it's part of the attractions.
"Do you really want to stay with humans?" Dipper asked, looking for a last chance out before offering anything. Bill nodded violently, and Dipper sighed deeply. "Fine," he replied. If he turned away the demon, who was there to stop him from coming back whenever he wanted? It's better to have him come on my terms. That way, I can have a little control of the situation, and I won't be blamed for letting the enemy infiltrate the shack if no one finds out, right? He knew that whatever he did, even if he warned everyone that the man was Bill, that he would still be blamed for leading him here. He was the only reason Bill was even there at the moment, as far as he could tell. After a second he added, "But on one condition: you don't leave the shack without me." Being the only one who knew his identity, Dipper needed to make to stop Bill from doing anything stupid.
Bill wore a playful expression. "Saying you don't want me to leave you~?" he said, going over to Dipper and floating in front of him again, this time on his stomach and resting his head on his intertwined fingers. Dipper's face turned red with what he thought was rage. "As if! But I need to make sure you blend in and don't try anything stupid!" he said defensively, crossing his arms and looking away. That only made Bill's sly grin grow wider. "Whatever you say, Pine Tree, you're the boss."
