“My little girl’s growing up! Look at you! On your way to your first day of school!” Dan congratulated as I made my way to the door. I looked over at Dan and shook my head disapprovingly.
“Thanks Dan, I appreciate the act but please don’t. You’re giving me goose bumps,” I replied as I rubbed my hands on my arms. Dan smiled and chuckled as I locked the door shut.
I loved Dan. I loved him like a brother. He took me in when my life was hopeless and gave me everything I needed. He was always thoughtful and kind, not to mention that his looks never lacked. Dan was like that hot big brother that every girl wants to date. He was 22 and worked as a part-time model. But I never felt attracted to him in ‘that’ way since I always saw him as a brother.
Slowly I trotted to school. The school I was now attending wasn’t really far; it was only about six blocks away. Before I even arrived I could see the huge stone sign with “Hayden Community High School” engraved on it. Each letter was carefully painted with gold paint that was now slowly chipping away. I sighed and walked through the school gates.
Going back to school was super nostalgic, the crowds of people jumping, laughing and hugging. The smell of cheap perfume and sweat mingling together. I scrunched up my nose and shoved through the crowds, making my way to the front office to get my schedule.
The moment I entered the office, all noise died down and I was greeted with that particular smell all school offices had. I walked up to the lady at the front counter. She looked like she was around her mid-forties; she wore a cardigan in the ugliest shade of brown and had round glasses sitting on her nose snuggly. As I approached, she looked up causing her glasses to slide down her nose.
“Hi, may I help you?” She asked in a fake, overfriendly voice while shoving her glasses back up.
“Yeah, my name’s Jade Wildon. I’m a new student,” I replied, trying not to sound intimidated by the lady.
“Oh yes! Jade Wildon!” She exclaimed as she typed a few words into her keyboard. Then the ancient printer beside her started to whirr. Three sheets of paper slid out smoothly and she handed them to me. I took them feeling the light warmth of the just printed-paper.
“Here you go sweetie,” she said with that over friendly voice again. I smiled awkwardly and shuffled out of the office.
Once again the noises and smells surrounded me. Trying to ignore everything I flipped through the papers I was handed. One sheet was the campus map, one was my locker information and the last one was my schedule with the school rules on the back. I followed the map and got to my locker, thankful that I wasn’t greeted nor noticed on the way.
After unpacking I decided to take a little self-tour of the campus since my first period was a free period. I walked around the school marveling at the facilities and classrooms. As I neared the stadium I heard commanding shouts and cheering people. Curiously I jogged towards the stadium. When I got there I saw around 15 guys jogging and training with football gear on. At the bleachers were hundreds (literally) of girls cheering and shouting. I raised my eyebrows questioning the vast number of girls cheering. That’s not normal…not normal at all.
I decided to go search for some type of coach to ask for some type of a sports program. I first went to check what looked like the storage room, once I opened the heavy metal doors the lethal smell of rotting rubber and year-old musty cloth seeped out.
“Oh god,” I managed to utter as I slammed the door shut and pinched my nose. I spun around to leave but instead whacked into a random wall that just grew out of the ground behind me? Letting go of my nose and rubbing my head in pain I looked up to see a wall –no- a wall man.
