Unfinished Goodbyes

"We've only ourselves to blame,"
She said six words
That were simple as sundown
Yet so unnerving.

My raging thoughts made me remember
Of when we were younger yet smarter
Our hands entwined in each other's
Her sweet dreams were mine

"Just give me time,"
I said, my voice a plea
We'll learn to love again
I swore, one day we'd be everything

The Stars looked down at us
Some in awe, some in wonder
As our hearts fused into the air
The Sun cursed as we shone brighter

"I promise,"
The silence made way
Into the crevices of our mind
Driving us insane
Driving me wild

As I shouldered my pain
I reminisced of then
We were ghosts
Silent as the weather

"But we're better together,"
Five words hung in the clouds
Flying higher and higher
Tables turned but her heart beat was the only sound

I hoped to the stars and moon
'Take away my everything but not us'
Yet, the moon shrouded her face
As she looked at me for one last time
And walked away.
