Eric Reinhardt
I checked myself in the mirror for the third time tonight. I was unlike myself, getting nervous about introducing my "girlfriend" to my parents. I hope Alice remembered to get Jade prepared for the party.
I sighed again, and called for Albert. Making sure everything is in place, and the guards are prepared and at their stations.
"Yes, Sir?" He questioned while shuffling some papers into the folder he was holding.
"Is everything ready?" I ran my fingers through my hair anxiously. Everything must be perfect, or else my parents would find out who Jade truly is.
"Yes, sir. The ballroom is already prepared, the food is being brought out right this second, and the guards are already at their stations." He confirmed with a nod, "Here are the papers Mr. Wizosky sent in today."
I took the folder from him, and gave him a nod, dismissing him. Looking over the papers, I saw that my company has made it into the top five again. But it still isn't good enough. My company has to be top one, to eliminate all sorts of competition with rival companies.
I put the papers back in the folder, then laid it on the desk. I'll get back to it once I'm done with the party.
"Hey, bro. Are you done?"I heard Alice ask from the doorway, "The party is going to start in five minutes, and you need to be there."
I opened the door, and saw Alice looking slightly pissed off, with Jade standing a few steps behind. She looked slightly nervous, probably because she didn't have her glasses on. Which was a good thing because I could finally see her eyes properly. She has those kinds of greenish-blue eyes, which changes color depending on her mood or the day.
It's obvious she went to that spa place Alice always goes to, since I'm pretty sure she didn't do her makeup, nails, or hair. On closer look, her hair color is actually dark brown, not black as I first thought.
"Finally, the great brother of mine is here. What took him so long? Let's find out!" Alice said in a news reporter voice, pretending she was interviewing me, "Tell me, dear brother, what took you so long to get ready?"
"I didn't spend the whole afternoon dressing up, 'cause I was working." I started walking, giving them the hint to do the same.
"How boring. You're no fun." Alice then proceeded to talk with Jade, probably gossiping.
"I heard that Louisa, the girl in pink we saw at the spa, is getting another surgery done. I'm guessing it's because she still thinks her boobs aren't big enough. The nerves of that girl." And, I was right.
"Wait. Isn't Louisa your friend?" I asked, confused.
"No! My friend is Louise, not Louisa. I'd rather... choke than be that witch's friend." Alice has this thing against saying bad things and swearing, ever since she read a book about it when she was younger.
She turned to Jade, who was a few paces behind us, and told her to come stand by us. "Um... You know you're supposed to be Eric's girlfriend, right? So go stand beside him! He'll introduce you to everyone once everyone's here."
"Oh, okay." Jade silently came up next to me, looking down at the ground. This is going to be difficult.
"Jade, I need you to pay very close attention now, okay?" I asked as I got started on telling her the basic things she needs to know about me and my family, and what to do later on.
She nodded and asked questions if necessary, silently taking notes of the very important things. As we were waiting for the guests in the ballroom she recited everything without messing up. She's good.
After a while, people came in in pairs or families. I was so occupied with settling a deal with another company, that I didn't notice my parents entering.
"Oh my son! Look at you, you finally got a girlfriend." My mom cried out as I hugged her.
"What's your name?" Dad asked after giving me a firm handshake.
"Jade, Jade Hernandez." She answered politely.
"Hm, what a lovely name. I'm sure we'll get along just fine." My mother said approvingly while giving Jade a small hug.
"Come on, darling. Let's leave Eric to greet the guests before peppering him with questions." My father saved me as he saw that look on mother's face. They left, but not before giving me a look that said: 'We'll talk later.'
"You were awesome, Jade! Mother didn't notice a thing!"Alice came up to us while squealing with excitement.
"Yes. I believe we can pull this off, if you keep up the act." I really do. But I have a feeling that something's going to happen tonight.
