First Assignment (1st Version)

Four

Jade Hernandez

I was putting my stuff in the closet, when I heard a soft knock. So soft, that I barely heard it.

The door opened a crack, and a woman with chubby cheeks poked her head in. "Master Reinhardt asked me to take you shopping for some clothes."

"Yep. Okay." I picked up my cellphone and follwed her to the front entrance, where a car was already waiting for us.

During the ride, I found out that her name is Renee, has two children, and is the head maid in Mr. Reinhardt's mansion.

"Ladies, we've arrived." The driver suddenly said.

I looked out the window, and from what I can see, I'm guessing it's a super fancy, high-class mall for rich people.

"Mrs. Renee-"

"Just Renee will do." She cut me off, "Continue, dear."

"Well, why are we here? I don't have the money, and I can't let you pay for my things."

She held up a card, and smiled at me, "Master Reinhardt has given me this card to buy things for him. So I guess he's paying for your things."

"Oh. Um... Okay." Getting my consent, she started leading me to different shops, telling me to just buy whatever I want. At last, we reached a Victoria's Secret shop.

"What are we doing here? I don't need new underwears."

"But didn't you need a swimsuit? And we can get discount here." Renee said as she led me to the swimsuits section.

"Really? We can get discounts here? How much?" I've always been a sucker for discounts, wanting to spend as little money as possible. Don't ask why, I just do.

"You can buy one and get one free. But only if you're a friend of the owner, like Master Reinhardt." Renee explained.

"Mhm." I replied, already going through the different types of swimsuits. I picked out several swimsuits, and went into the dressing room to try them on.

"I think I'll take these." I said as I showed Renee the four swimsuits that I chose.

We paid with Mr. Reinhardt's card, just like everything else we bought today. We went on shopping, and without us realizing it, it's already 5pm.

"Miss Jade, would you like to join Master Reinhardt for dinner? Or should we just eat here?" Renee asked after buying me some shoes.

"I would like to know Mr. Reinhardt better, so I guess I'll join him for dinner. He won't mind, would he?"

"No, no. Of course not. Just let me call the driver." She made a short call, and after a few minutes we were on out way back to the mansion.

I changed into one of the dresses I bought today after showering, and headed downstairs to the dining room.

"So you got yourself a female bodyguard?" A female voice asked.

"Yes. But I only know her name." Mr. Reinhardt replied.

As I walked to the dining room, I saw a brunette sitting with Mr. Reinhardt, clearly enjoying themselves.

"Is that her?" The woman turned to me, waving me over with a smile, "She's pretty." She told Mr. Reinhardt.

"Yes. That's her. Miss Hernandez, meet my sister, Alice. Alice, this is my bodyguard, Jade Hernandez." Mr. Reinhardt introduced us, "Why don't you join us for dinner? I also need to discuss some things with you."

"Oh, okay." I sat down timidly.

"Nice to meet you, Jade. And call me Alice." She turned to her brother, "You mean that thing?"

"Yes." Mr. Reinhardt replied before going to the kitchen to tell the cook something.

"What thing  was Mr. Reinhardt talking about?" I asked Alice.

"Only his work partners call him that. And he'll tell you later." Seeing the nervous look on my face, she added, "Don't worry. It's not anything bad."

I nodded silently. Shortly after, Eric returned. "Do you know why I wanted a female bodyguard instead of a male bodyguard?" Was the first thing he said as he sat down.

"No. Why?"

"Because there will be several social events I needed to attend, and..." He didn't finish.

"And?"

"He sorta lied to our parents about having a girlfriend." Alice quickly finished.

"But why me? And a bodyguard?"

"Well, I have rival companies targeting me, and I don't want just any girl. My parents will see right through my lie." Eric finally said.

"So I'm supposed to be your bodyguard, while posing as your girlfriend." I raised my eyebrows.

"Uh... Yes." He sheepishly looked down.

"That wasn't in the job description, was it?"

"Not exactly..."

"So will you help us, Jade?" Alice looked at me with a pleading look.

"I just have to attend those social events with Mr. Rein- Eric, right?" I asked.

They both nodded.

"Well, how bad can it be? I guess I'll help you guys then." I sighed in defeat. I really don't want to meet all those snobby, rich friends of Alice and Eric. Much less their parents.
