the only noise in my room was a rattling fan.

i sat there, against the wall out of boredom, waiting for the neighbors to arrive.

i threw a crumbled piece of paper endlessly at the wall of shame.

my parents invited the new family to have a dinner at our house as a welcoming gift.

im not excited for it at all.

i had to look nice so i decided to wear my nicest band shirt since i own absolutely nothing else.

i tried to comb my red hair in the nicest way possible without it sticking up everywhere.

i heard the downstairs door open, looks they are here.

i stood at the top of the steps and watched the three piece family walk in.

it was a mom, a dad and a boy who looked about my age.

he was wearing a plain black t-shirt, black jeans, floral vans and his hair was very fluffy.

my parents were greeting each and everyone of them.

the kid looked about as excited as i was.

they called me downstairs and all heads roll to me.

is it weird to have bright red hair? i thought colored hair was finally considered normal.

the fluffy boy just stared at me as my parents shooed us away and to converse with each other.

he sat against my couch and just started texting someone on his phone.

i sat there awkwardly while none of us wanted to make the first move.

"hi, my name is josh" i finally spoke up.

he didn't look up from his phone "hi josh", he mumbled.

i had no idea what to say "what's your name", i said awkwardly.

"im tyler" he replied still not looking up at all.

we sat in silence with the only noise being our parents in the room over talking very loudly.

tyler finally put away his phone and sat up.

"sorry about that josh, this group chat that i'm in can get very lit whenever im busy." tyler lied.

i nodded "that's fine, i completely understand."

"so tell me about yourself." tyler actually sounded excited for once.

"i play the drums, that's it."

"cool, i play the piano & ukulele. i know that sounds boring."

i just nodded as he went back on his phone again.

as 10 minutes passes by, my parents called us in the sit at the dinner table.

let's see what this night has to offer.
