"Fuck!" I screamed, as I fell to my knees. I was at a park, empty of people due to the late hour, which gave off a strange signal of déjà vu. I had been in this situation before. A broken heart and a scattered mind triggered that same feeling as when my dad called for the first time in god knows how many years—five, I think? It didn't matter. All I could comprehend now was the pain in my legs and my heart. She's leaving me. She's literally moving across the country. Without me. She's leaving me. I don't know why running always seemed to be my solution, but when I'm upset I need to get away. People don't help; people just fuck things up more, and things are fucked up enough already. My knees failed to support me and I hit the ground, my head thankfully hitting the grass, instead of the concrete sidewalk that the majority of my body fell on. Although I'm sure I could take the pain, I just feel numb right now. I liked the feeling of shutting off, and seeing black dots appearing around the corners of my vision. My mind was clear and serene as my eyelids fell closed against my will; the world reduced to darkness.
"Miss? Miss? Are you okay?" a voice I didn't recognize asked from above me. I reluctantly opened my eyes to see a young woman standing above me.
"What?" I mumbled, attempting, and failing to sit up, "Oh, fuck no, not doing that."
"Are you okay? I just found you passed out," the woman explained.
"Ah shit, what time is it?"
"It's five in the morning. For real, are you okay? Is there anyone I can call?"
"Um, can you just help me up, I am in all kinds of pain right now," I managed to get out.
The woman reached out her arm and helped me off of the cold sidewalk. I groaned in pain, but did manage to get to my feet, "Thanks."
"May I ask what happened?" the woman, whom I could now see clearly, furrowed her eyebrows and I sighed.
"I may have just found out my girlfriend is moving to New York."
Her expression softened. "That sucks, I'm moving to New York after high school too, my girlfriend actually broke up with me because of it. I'm Haunani."
"Jade," I reached out and shook her hand. "Thank you for helping me and making sure I'm not dead."
"No problem, now get back to your girl," those were Haunani's last words before she turned and walked off with nothing but a brief wave.
I sent a small wave in her direction, still in a bit of a daze after just waking up. I pulled out my phone and dialled Winter's number.
It was answered before barely one ring. "Jade? Where are you? Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I'm fine. I don't know where I am, I know it's a park by the club though. I'll try and walk back to there."
"What happened?" her frantic tone was dying down now that she knew I was alright.
"I ran, and then collapsed. A nice woman helped me out, I'm fine."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
"Also Jade?"
"I'm sorry for last night."
"We'll talk more when I see you."
"Okay, bye Jade."
"Bye Winnie."
I hung up and shoved my phone back into my pocket. The park was still empty, but I could recognize the way I had come, so I knew there was a slim chance I made any turns when running from the club, so I took my best guess and just walked a straight path.
What I think was twenty minutes passed, when I saw the familiar club entrance. I smiled in relief and sat down against the building. I sent Winter a text saying I had found my way back and not even five minutes later, a car pulled into the parking lot, Winter in the driver's seat looking a mix of frantic and relieved. As soon as I opened the door and sat down in the passenger seat Winter leaned over and pressed her lips to mine.
"I was so fucking worried about you, you don't even know."
"You should know by now," I started, "I like to run far away from my problems."
Winter just laughed, but I don't think she found it funny. "I'm really sorry for springing that on you Jade."
"Hey, it's okay. We know what are future holds and we'll figure things out later," I couldn't help but gaze into her crystal blue eyes. The bags under them were prominent and I could tell she had barely slept. I felt terrible for putting her through such torture. "Let's focus on the now."
"The now," she repeated.
"And you know what's in a week?"
"What?""Prom," I stated simply, "I wanted to ask you after the show but, you know."
"So, are you asking me to prom right now?" Winter asked, a smile forming.
"Absolutely."
"Then, I would love to go to prom with you, Jade Summers."
"I love you."
"I love you too, Winter Alexander," I smiled and our lips joined together once again. I was happy.
