I groaned for an unnecessarily long time. "I really hate tests."
Jade dropped her bag on the floor next to the door and I did the same. We both fell onto the well-worn couch and the beautiful creature next to me emitted a sigh. "I know. I failed that test. I'm so done for."
"I'm sure you did fine," I reassured, pushing myself off of the sofa and walking into the kitchen. "Do you want anything?"
"You know what sounds good right now?" Jade asked, ignoring my question.
"Enlighten me," I smiled, although she couldn't see.
"Taco Bell," she said. I found myself peeking around the corner, to find her looking off into an invisible distance, with squinted eyes. "Yeah, Taco Bell."
I laughed quietly and shrugged. "Let's do it."
Jade sprung from the couch as if standing up were an Olympic sport, and the adrenaline had kicked in from the millions of people watching. "Really?"
"Yeah, my treat." I snatched my keys and nodded towards the front door. "Let's go."

"I'm so full, it hurts," Jade grunted as we entered the apartment.
"Hey, you chose to eat five tacos, so the only person you can blame is yourself," I shrugged and she glared at me.
Though her expression changed from a pouty child to one of small success when she said, "At least I didn't have to pay for it."
I rolled my eyes. "You're so lame it's almost cute."
"Almost?"
"Almost.""That's a lie, I'm adorable."
"Sure."
Jade laughed. "Hey, where's Autumn?"
"Right here!" Autumn announced as she entered, followed by a man whom I assumed was her boyfriend, Matt.
"Why does she always come in like that?"
"I don't know. She has this weird thing with perfect timing, she thinks it's hilarious."
"That's because it is!" Autumn interrupted. "Also, Jade, this is Matt, my boyfriend, in case you didn't know that."
Matt, who was closing and locking the door, smiled and waved. "Hello."
"I'm surprised we haven't met yet," Jade said.
"Well, he's a bit of a workaholic," I pointed out.
Autumn snuck a kiss on Matt's cheek before walking into the kitchen. "A bit is a vast understatement."
Matt just shrugged and followed Autumn. "He's not much of a talker is he?" Jade questioned, once we were alone.
"Not really. He can be pretty awkward sometimes, so sorry about that." I smiled, as a slight act of sympathy. "Which is why he and my insane, way-too-outgoing sister are perfect for each other."
"Do you think they'll ever get married?" Jade wondered out loud. I started tossing an apple between my hands to keep myself busy.
It was a thought I also liked to consider, so I smiled. "I don't think anything could get in their way."
"I want to have that with someone," she said with a small grin. "Nothing but complete love and care for each other, you know?"
"Yeah, I know," my eyes drifted to Jade, with a small, sad smile, "I've already found it."
Jade's attention turned back to me. "Oh really now?"
"Yeah, but it doesn't matter." I shrugged it off. "It isn't mutual or anything."
"Well at least tell me who the lucky girl is! Or guy, sorry."
"Or otherwise," I clarified. "Anyway, it's none of your business."
"Oh, come on!"
"I'll never tell!"
"That's not fair!" Jade whined, walking towards me. Instinctively I started backing up, but the floor was proven treacherous underneath my weakening feet when I stumbled. The words breathed from her mouth, "Tell me."
The kitchen scenery that was once taking up a good part of my sight and was instantly obstructed by her tawny beige skin, and there was nowhere to move. She had me backed against a wall, and the only thing I could focus on was her face, centimeters away from my own.
"I'm not going to tell you, Jade," I argued. A smirk formed onto her face, and every little detail outside of us began to dissolve. The pressure of her body against mine, and her scent - of jasmine? - overwhelmed me to the point of blurring my senses slightly.
My breath hitched, and Jade noticed. "Am I making you nervous?"
Jade laughed, and it seemed to ripple the air around us. "Come on Winter, just tell me who you're in love with and I'll get off of you."
"What if," I breathed, "I don't want you to get off of me?" I asked, the confidence in my voice struggling to keep steady.
"Then I'll do this." She pressed even closer, because somehow that was scientifically possible, and the distance between our lips had to only be millimeters. The intimacy was so great that I could feel her breath, somehow rapid and sedated at the same time, and I could more easily identify her smell. It was a perfume of vanilla and jasmine, which immediately became my favorite scent.
"Okay, then I'll do this." Instantaneously I closed whatever space was left between us. She kissed back automatically, our lips in perfect sync. Though I expected it to be hard, this kiss was even softer than our first, as if we wanted to savour it. Which I did, because I wish it would have lasted longer, but we pulled apart at the sound of Autumn's voice.
"Hey what do you guys want for-" Our heads both rotated to the sound of her voice, and we were met with an intensely red-faced Autumn. "Oh I'm so sorry, I'll just, go." She disappeared out of the kitchen with red cheeks. Jade and I couldn't help but laugh as she backed up so I wasn't pushed against the wall anymore. The backside of my body started to throb quietly from the constraint.
Jade beamed. "So I'm the lucky one?"
"No comment," I quipped as Jade just grinned, leaning in to kiss me once more.
