Amber and I got to the back of the class and sat down there next to each other. The room slowly filled with pupils chatting probably about some new rumours to start the year.
We watched Riley getting in and sitting in the front row like the nerd she was. Karter fell into the seat next to her still forced to listen to her nonstop talking. Poor Karter. Well, it totally was his own fault.
The next ones to come in were Bryana and Ashley. They were cheerleader and with that part of the cool and famous kids. They both wore the short cheerleading dresses which they seemed to never put off. It wasn't usual to always wear that uniform but both of them seemed to see those dresses as their brand. Bryana was really pale and her hair was bleached while Ashley was a bit darker, her quite pretty face was framed from brown hair with some blond highlights. The two walked down between the tables to their places right in front of ours like it was a catwalk. They sat down not wasting one glance at us let alone talk to us.
I shook my head at the thought that these girls were one of my best friends once. Now they seemed to hate me but it didn't get to me too much now that I know that they never were real friends.
I was pulled out of my deep thoughts when our teacher Mrs Devon came in and threw her bag on the table to silence us. Her silver hair was pulled pack with a big hair slide and her glasses sat on the very tip of her nose. She was in her middle fifties and her face had some crinkles that showed off that she was a woman who smiled and laughed a lot. Her cloths were quite colourful underlining what a creative person she was since she taught arts, English class and theatre group.
She was one of my favourite teachers even though I wasn't that good in her lessons.
Last year I barely managed to pass her English class since I'm really not into older classic books.
"Nice to see you all again and we will immediately start with the program of study", Mrs Devon said and started to give papers through the rows. When the papers came to Bryana and Ashley in front of us, they just ignored that we were there and didn't give them to us.
I rolled my eyes and held up my hand to give Mrs Devon a sign.
She saw it and immediately asked what was wrong.
"We didn't get any papers", I told her politely. She looked a little irritated at first but then walked to the back of the class to give each of us one of the copies.
"I'm sorry, looks like I didn't give out enough", our teacher said excusing.
I just smiled at her knowing that it wasn't her fault since Bryana and Ashley still had our original copies.
I heard them giggle and rolled my eyes again.
As soon as Mrs Devon was in the front of the class again Amber said sarcastically: "Oh my god! This was so unbelievably mean! I don't know how I can live anymore!" She put her hand to her head dramatically.
I laughed but stopped when Ashley and Bryana turned around to us. They both smiled evilly as if they had done the worst prank ever.
"We knew that you couldn't stand this", Bryana said seriously in her high pitched voice.
Ambers big eyes got even wider. "But you do know what sarcasm is, don't you?", she asked the stupid fake blonde.
Bryana looked irritated. "Yes?"
"And you do realise that this was sarcasm?", I jumped in helping Amber.
Again Bryana looked at me with puzzled eyes. Ashley also didn't seem to understand it since she now asked "Why would the question whether she knows sarcasm be sarcastic?"
Amber and I just stared at them shocked. "Wow, you guys are stupider than I thought", Amber said with pure honesty in her voice.
I ignored their reaction to that and focused back on Mrs Davon who was going threw the book titles which were written on the paper she gave us.
The next one was Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare. "Okay, so this one will be the first one we will be doing. But it will be something special since you will be working together with my drama group so we will be having a perfect stage play of Romeo and Juliet in the end. Auditions for the roles are on Wednesday, so you've got two days time to prepare some texts", Mrs Devon smiled.
The class got excited and started to talk while our teacher handed out the books with the texts inside. My gaze fell on Riley talking excitedly to Karter probably about her being Juliet and him playing Romeo. She changed a lot since the both of them were together. I remember her being really shy and silent but as soon as Karter started to be interested in her she completely changed. Now she was a too much talking girl who put herself way too high.
I threw a glance at Amber and we said the exactly same at the same time. "Stage decoration!"
We both have never really been into acting on stage but into the stuff that had has to be done backstage.
On the next second the school bell rang and everyone got up and ran out as fast as they could.
Amber and I did the same until Mrs Devon's voice called me back.
I groaned silently and walked over to her.
She smiled at me brightly. "Lilian, I really want you to audition for the role of Juliet", she told me.
What? No way!
"Sorry, Mrs Devon, but I would really like to stay backstage", I answered politely.
My teacher nodded her head like she was deep in thoughts.
"Yes ... Yes ... But I think this role would be perfect for you", she smiled again.
I didn't want to play any role since I didn't want to be on stage. That's what I wanted to tell her but before I could do that she sighed.
"Listen, Lilian, I know English isn't your best class however, I feel like this would be really good for you."
I thought about what she said. It wasn't like I would hate it to be on stage it was just that I wasn't really liked by the other students and I feel like it would be quite weird to play in front of them all. I searched for another excuse. "But shouldn't Juliet be blonde?" Bad excuse, Lilian, couldn't you bring up anything better?
Mrs Devon laughed "No one cares about details like that. Please, Lilian, try it!"
I sighed defeated. "Alright, I'm going to audition, but I can't promise to be good", I told her honestly.
She smiled happily at me "Just really try!"
I nodded again. "You may go now", she finally disbanded me and I went out of the class room to meet outside with my waiting best friend.
"What did she want?", Amber asked. I shook my head starting to walk to our next class. "Don't even ask!"
