I could see her hands shaking. I was quite sure that it wasn't the memory that made them shake. It was fear. But what was Lilian so scared off?
Through the whole story I have been holding her hand to support her and I listened closely.
I had no idea. When Boston told me that there were rumors about her, I was irritated since she didn't seem like someone our High School would talk about. Greyzoned. But the more I think about it the more I can imagine Lilian at the school's top. She has a really good taste in style and is very pretty. She is nice and polite but has also a strong character. I really do get the popular thing. Which makes me even more shocked that she got dropped that fast and hard. Kids love rumors and when there is a good victim they don't try to stop it but give the rumors input.
I can feel Lilian's eyes on me while I processed her story.
My gaze met hers and I smiled at her. Not one of my grins that seemed a little arrogant but a real and honest smile.
She was still scared of my reaction and I wanted to make sure that I was very thankful for her telling me.
"You know, I am glad that you already punched Riley in the face, cause if you hadn't I would have to do that tomorrow", I let pride swing in my voice very obviously so she would definitely hear it. I was proud. It was a great act of her to get out of this whole situation and Riley really deserved it. "Hm ... when I think about it, maybe I am going to punch her still", I made a thinking face and suddenly Lilian broke into a laugh. The thought that I was the reason for it made me smile widely.
Half an hour later we decided to leave and I walked her back to her penthouse. It was a comfortable silence we were in but I didn't mind when Lilian broke it.
"Thank you. It was really nice today", she smiled up at me. I wasn't that much taller than her but the few centimeters still created a small height difference.
"Even though I made you tell me your secret?", I joked.
Lilian's smile faded from her face and I wanted to punch myself for what I said. "I'm sor-" "No, it's okay", she interrupted me and a tiny smile crawled back on her lips even though it didn't reach her eyes. "It's just that I never told anyone but Amber" It filled me with pride to be a person that she seemed to trust but I didn't really understand why she told no-one, "Nobody else?", I asked and she shook her head as an answer. As if she knew that I wanted to ask why she told me. "In the first place, I feel embarrassed that Karter cheated on me and in the second place that would me make nothing better than Riley even though it isn't a lie", we have stopped in front of her penthouse door. I didn't even really realize that we went up inside the house.
"I'm not like them", she told me strongly, her eyes locked with mine and suddenly I realized how close we were standing in front of each other. I just had to lower my head and my lips could meet hers.
"No, you're nothing like them", I whispered and started to lean in. This time I watched out for her reaction, ready to stop if she still wasn't ready yet but when her eyes fluttered close I knew I had permission.
But before I could lower my lips on hers I heard the door to her penthouse open and I quickly moved away. I didn't know whether she has told her parents about her starting to like girls and it definitely wasn't my call to show them and I also didn't know how they would react seeing us like this.
When Lilian's mom looked out of the door I was a step away from her daughter so nothing would be suspicious. "Are you coming in?", her mom asked her while sending me a polite smile. "Your father made dinner for us."
"Sure", Lilian answered and then did something I did definitely not expect from her.
She took that step over to me and smiled at me "Thanks for the date, again" With that she gave me a quick peck on the cheek. From the surprised face of her mother I knew that she hasn't told her, yet. Another small smile in my direction and Lilian was behind the closed door.
A smug grin spread across my face and I stood in the same spot for another minute before I finally decided to leave.
Honestly I wouldn't have thought that she would be so open about liking me but I should have known. Lilian is a girl that knows what she wants and at the moment that what seemed to be me.
Just when I was back on the street my phone rang and after I threw a glance at the screen I picked up.
"What's up, Bastian?", I asked while walking down the street. It would take me about fifteen minutes to walk home and the sun just started to set.
"Hey B, Boston thinks someone hacked his phone. We think it's someone from the Chemicalls. Can you get here and figure this shit out?", I heard his raspy voice.
I sighed. This was not good. I got Bostons phone pretty hacker-safe but I could only do so much. When the Chemicalls really got into it we had quite a problem since on his phone were most of our text messages and even some data that really shouldn't be spread around. The Chemicalls were one of the bigger gangs in this city and had their fingers nearly in every illegal business that exists in this city from prostitution to very hard drugs. Don't get me wrong we aren't completely legal as well but we didn't go too far in my opinion. Most of our money we made with robbery and I hacked a lot for good prices and the boys also gave drugs out but only the lighter stuff like weed. We had guns but only for selfdefense and didn't sell them. I was okay with what we were doing since it didn't harm anyone too much. We were picky with our jobs. But when Chemicall got too much information from Boston's phone, only being called out to the police would be our best chance of a future.
"I'm on my way"
