Early the next morning, Michele started her regular routine by first calling the hospital to check on Nanny. Turns out that during the night Nanny had an adverse reaction to one of the new medications that her doctor prescribed and she was having a tough time breathing. But the nurse reassured her that she was fine and hopefully in a couple of days Nanny would be up for some visitors.
All Michele could think of during her jog that morning was what was going to happen if Nanny didn’t get better, what she was going to do. It would be different, even though right now she was already on her own; there was still Nanny who was in charge.
About an hour later as Michele made the turn up her street she could see someone was waiting for her on her front porch step, thinking of the possibilities there could only be two people and she knew that Nicole would never be up this early which left just one person. Someone she was hoping to avoid seeing for as long as possible.
“I stopped by, but you didn’t answer the door, but your car was in the driveway so I thought you still might be sleeping so I decided to wait,” Logan said as he shook a white lunch bag in Michele’s direction. “I thought you would like to have breakfast with me this morning.”
Why was he here this morning? Didn’t he have a home to go to or a football to throw around or something? Why?
“Thanks, but I already had breakfast,” Michele said as she opened the front door hoping that Logan would take the hint and leave.
“You look hungry and I have the best homemade muffins, my mom made them just this morning,” he said as he pulled out one blueberry muffin and took a bite. “If I told my mom you didn’t at least try one she would be sad, you don’t want to disappoint my mom, do you?”
Like I couldn’t say no to that and blueberry muffins were my favorite and his mom did go out of her way to make them, I couldn’t be rude to his mom.
“Fine come in and sit down, let me go change and I will be right back,” Michele said as she flew up the stairs.
Changing in record time, Michele threw her hair up into a ponytail and threw on a pair of clean jean shorts and a sweatshirt as she headed back downstairs unaware of what Logan had on his agenda for her at the moment.
“So, looking at colleges huh,” Logan said as he held up the application for Washington State University. “WSU is my top choice too; their coach is coming out for Friday’s game and going to let me know whether or not he is going to offer me a full-ride.”
“It’s one of my choices,” Michele said coyly knowing full well it was her top choice because of its School of Communication and because both of her parents went there and that’s where they fell in love. “But I haven’t made up my mind yet, I’m still weighing my options. Have you received offers from any other schools?”
“Yeah about three, but I’m not really interested in any other school but WSU, they’ve got a great football program and I could have a good chance at playing or even starting next year if this season goes as well as I hope it does. The school produces a lot of great NFL quality quarterbacks and it has been a dream of mine to play professionally since I saw my first game when I was 7.”
“That’s great, it’s nice to see someone really passionate about something,” Michele said again glancing down at the college packet.
“It would be great if we both went there, then at least we would know someone at college right off the bat,” he said hoping to catch her off guard.
To distract him, Michele reached into the bag and grabbed a muffin, it was still warm. Well, he was right that were fresh.
“Yeah, my mom gets into a mode sometimes and with all of the moving, baking seems to be the only thing keeping her from going insane with all of the unpacking.
