To Logan’s surprise, his parents weren’t too mad at him for punching Max since he was protecting Michele. He didn’t go unpunished, however, and he wasn’t allowed to go over to Michele’s house for two weeks, even though she was still able to come over to his house.

After their next three wins, Logan’s new team was now playing in the state championship game against his old team, the Ferris High School Saxons.

With only a few days left until the big game there was much work to be done.

For Michele, the stress of getting into college was about to come full circle. Day after day since her visit to WSU, she anxiously waited by the mailbox for the thick envelope that would contain an acceptance letter to arrive and nothing came. Michele was starting to think that somehow her application never made it the university and that she wasn’t going to get in. All of that hard work for nothing.

To make the situation worse, Katelyn, who Michele stayed in contact with, called to say that she got her acceptance in the mail and wanted to see if Michele had heard anything yet.

“I bet since I live so close to the school that’s why I got mine already, I bet yours will arrive in the next day or two,” Katelyn said in a very reassuring way.

“I hope you’re right. Hey by the way, do you have an idea where you’re staying when you come over for the game?”

“We are trying to find a hotel room for a bunch of us girls, but everywhere is full and I want to stay close to the Tacoma Dome.”

“You can stay with me and we can make it into a big slumber party, I’ll invite some of my friends, it will be fun and the best part is that I’m less than 10 minutes from the arena,” Michele offered.

“Are you sure you don’t mind, won’t it be a little weird hosting girls from the rival school?”

“Of course not, it will be tons of fun. Come over early and we can make a long weekend out of it,” Michele said.

The next day, Michele and the squad had a dress rehearsal at the Tacoma Dome to get a feel for where they would be performing. After practice, Michele and Nicole stayed behind to try-out for the chance to the sing the National Anthem before the game.

There were about 15 students there to audition and Michele was last to perform. For her it was the worst place to be, she would have to live up to the standard of everyone else.

Nicole was incredible. Whenever she sang either in her car or in front of an audience she was able to capture everyone’s attention by her personality. Michele was sure that Nicole was going to win. She knew that if she didn’t get it, she would be super excited for Nicole.

Next it was Michele’s turn. After watching Nicole she was put at ease and all of her anxiety vanished, thinking to herself that she just needed to have fun and relax and leave everything out there for the judges. She was able to hit all of her notes in perfect tune adding her own style to several parts of the song, the judges were going to have a hard time deciding on a winner.

The judges deliberated for about ten minutes before announcing their decision.

“Thank you everyone for coming out and auditioning, you all were wonderful and it’s very hard to pick just one person so instead we added another solo,” the head judge announce. “We will have a second winner sing “America the Beautiful” during halftime and that person will be Nicole Williams.

Nicole was beside herself with excitement and hugged Michele as she jumped up and down as fast as she could.

“And our soloist for the National Anthem is … Michele Dentman. Congratulations, Michele and Nicole and we will see you tomorrow.”
