It had been three weeks since Nanny’s funeral and Michele tried her best to go back to her normal routine. The best thing was that Aunt Cheryl left only hours after the funeral and had no plans on coming back. She never even called Michele to check to see how she was doing. Michele wasn’t surprised. In a way, she was grateful.
Michele went back to school, work and most importantly cheerleading. It was cheer along with Logan and his mom that kept her going every day. With every passing day, the sadness was lessening It also helped that she was at the McKenzie’s almost every day, spending a lot of time with Bethany especially. Their relationship had grown very quickly in the short time since Nanny’s death. For Michele, she felt like she could talk about anything with Bethany and nothing was off limits.
Today marked her first session back with Dr. Underwood since Nanny died. Michele kept rescheduling her appointment, until she was really ready to talk about it.
Offering his condolences to Michele, they spoke for the next two hours about how she was handling Nanny’s death and what kind of support she had.
“It seems that you have a great support system with Logan and his family,” Dr. Underwood said. “It’s great to have that kind of foundation. How are you dealing with this?
“It helped knowing that Nanny was going to die, so in some way I was prepared unlike the accident. But it’s still hard to deal with, knowing that I’m all alone. I’m just grateful for Logan and especially his mom who has kind of adopted me and has been really great to talk to. The best thing is that she just listens to me.”
Dr. Underwood asked Michele about the homework he assigned her during an earlier session.
“Still working on it, but I will be done with it soon, I promise.”
“Michele, this is really important that you do this, I really think that it will help.
After practice that Thursday night, Michele and Bethany were in the kitchen just finishing cooking dinner and talking about her therapy session.
“You don’t have to talk about it when we if you don’t want to,” Bethany said handing Michele the plates and silverware to set the table.
“I don’t mind, it actually helps the more I talk about it. What I still haven’t understood or none one can explain to me is why this has happened and all at once, that’s the hardest thing to deal with,” Michele said trying to keep her voice light trying not to sound sad.
“I wish that I had a good answer for you, but I don’t,” Bethany said. “All I know for sure is that God won’t ever give you more than you can handle. I know you probably don’t feel that way, but one day I know you will.”
“Bethany, I just want to thank you for everything you have done for me over these last few weeks, I don’t think I could get through all of this without,” she explained giving Bethany a hug when she noticed Logan standing in the hallway and had heard everything.
Feeling like he was being appreciated for all that he had done for Michele, Logan angrily stomped up the stairs.
“I’m not hungry and I’ve got a lot to do tonight,” Logan grumbled before slamming his bedroom door.
Witnessing his very unusual behavior, Michele just looked at Bethany who just shrugged her shoulders and went upstairs to talk with Logan.
