[Hayley]
I'm in total shock. Before I knew it, I was texting Taylor fucking York. And now here I sit, moments later, waiting for him to answer the call.
The word "connecting" appears on the screen in white text. I breathe out a sigh of relief. Why was I even holding that in? Nonetheless, he's answering. He appears on my screen, after a few seconds. He's wearing a black shirt two words printed on the top.
'Invisible Children' are the words on the shirt, printed in black and white. He tugs on his black beanie. It appears as though he's using his phone as some sort of mirror. Does he even realize that I'm here? I glance in the corner where I can see what it is that Taylor is currently seeing. I look terrible, if I do say so myself. Meanwhile, he looks god-like with little to no effort.
"Hi," I squeak. Seriously. I mean to sound casual and all that, maybe even a little attractive, but just being in his presence has gotten me so excited that my voice is ridiculously high. Whatever, deal with it.
"Hayley, hey," he says, his voice rather soothing. I don't know what it is that makes it so relaxing, but it is. He looks away from the screen, eyes focused above the phone.
"What's up? Why'd you want to FaceTime?" I ask, drawing his attention back to the screen. His eyes widen for just a second, and his hand rises to scratch at his beanie covered head. He shrugs his shoulders a bit, looking away briefly before his eyes return to mine.
"Uh, I dunno. Just like talking to you and hearing your voice..." he trails off, mouth closing. He seems to not know where to go with speaking. That's okay, his awkward behavior is kind of cute. He's always seemed rather introverted, even when he was popular.
"How's England been? I mean, I think you told me about that last night. But some of what you said last night was just crazy talk," I say, my words followed by the tiniest of giggles. He smiles and stands up with a small sigh.
"It's been good. Hectic as hell. I went food shopping earlier, but I know that I must have forgotten to buy some things. Some of the food that they've got here, wow. They have food I've never heard of, but also lack food that I would see at every grocery store in town back home. I'm hungry, though, so I'm gonna get some food. I was just about to ask if you wanted something, and then I remembered you're, what, over 4000 miles away from me?" he laughs, but nothing about his laughter sounds genuine.
He places his phone against what I assume must be his wall, before he walks away from the device. I wait for him to return before preparing to speak.
He returns with an entire jar of peanut butter in one hand, a box of crackers in the other. He places the box and jar down on the counter, away from my view.
He bends his knees a little bit, so that his entire face is now visible. A goofy grin takes over his features, and wow, it's the cutest. His teeth show, eyes closed due to the size of his smile. I return the grin, teeth showing.
I close my mouth and giggle a bit. I decide to take a screenshot. You can't blame me, alright. He's absolutely adorable. Why not treasure the moment?
"Hold on," I speak, pressing the home button twice, and going directly to the messaging app. I hear a whine come from the other end of the call.
"Where did you gooo?" he whines, his words followed by a huff.
"I'll be back in just a second, I'm texting Lynn," I explain, sending her a message that she replies to within seconds. I tell her I'm speaking to Taylor, and she immediately tells me to marry him. I honestly would.
I end our short conversation by reminding her that I hate her, yes, 100% do. And then, I return to the video call. He's moved, once again sitting on the couch, as he had been earlier. His eyes aren't focused on the phone screen, but above, probably focused on the television.
"Yorkie," I say quickly. He instantly looks back down, with wide eyes. There is peanut butter on his upper lip, just a small bit of it. Also, there are a few cracker crumbs surrounding his lips. He must realize, because he wipes his face with his wrist before speaking.
"You're back. Hi. I have a question."
"Ask it."
"Alright, what did I talk about last night?" Taylor asks me, stuffing another peanut butter covered cracker passed his lips. What a basic meal.
"Well," I begin, trying to recall the conversation of last night. "You seemed to be amazed over time zones. You asked me how I was doing several times. It's like you were Joey from Friends. Uh, what else. You talked about Josh Farro, because you said how you don't like him anymore. I forget how we got onto that topic. You explained why, but I asked some questions that you didn't seem to know the answers to." I chew on my lip, hoping to receive some sort of answers. Not too hopeful, though.
"Yeah? What were you asking?"
I look away for a second. Shifting in my spot on my bed, I look back to the screen.
"Well, you said why you didn't like Josh. You said that you two had some issues with your ex, where he was hooking up with her. And you also said that he hooked up with someone that you were really into. That they hooked up after prom. Who was that person?"
He sighs, a hand coming up to remove his black beanie. He drops it beside him, letting his short curls free.
"You should know," he comments, no longer seeming to be in that giddy mood he was in seconds ago.
"If you don't want to tell me, then just say so. You don't have to be mean about it."
He sits back in his seat, lets out a heavy breath, and then leans closer to the camera.
"It was you."
