"So, what is it you need from me?" Z asked while in his new office. I sat in the chair in front of his large wooden desk while Spencer, agitated, leaned against his personal library.
"I need your venom."
"What?" Spencer and Z asked in unison.
"Why the hell would you need that?"
"Because I do."
"No." Spencer said. "No, we are not doing that. Is this to spite me?"
"Not everything is about you Spencer."
"I haven't thought otherwise since I've been back because you're hogging it all. You say this is for everyone's safety, so for my safety, what the fuck do you need vampire venom for?"
"I just need it. So if you don't mind, I'm asking the one person here who can give it to me. Z?"
He looked apprehensive. "Fine, I will give you some venom. How much?"
"A handful will be sufficient. Can you put a rush on that? We need to make a plane."
"What time?"
"11:30."
"Yes, yes." He said getting up. "Give me five minutes."
He left the room and I took out my phone and started reading more of the Latin translations.
"You're keeping me out of the loop."
"What now?"
"I'm sorry, am I bitching too much?"
"Spencer, please."
"Please what? I'm asking you what's going on and you're not telling me anything. You're hiding things from me, telling me things last minute and I'm doing everything with you on a whim. When do I get filled in?"
"I need certain ingredients from supernatural beings. It's easier if you just trust me."
"Why? Why can't trust me enough to tell me?"
"Because I'm your mate."
"You're not acting like it."
"I've got a lot on my plate."
"I can help."
"Jesus Spencer, you going to eventually mark and claim me for an heir, so stop pretending like anything else matters. We're going to fuck eventually, so keep it in your pants long enough for me to save the supernatural world so you're able to take it out of your pants."
He blinked a few times before slamming the door behind him. I bit my lip and my stomach churned. I should apologize.
"Here," Z handed me a few vitals of light green venom. "That's more than enough."
"Thank you."
"If it needs to be done, then let it be so. You're the prophetess, I entrust my life to you. I have to. You're the only hope my people and I have."
~
In the car, Spencer was fuming, and the deafening silence didn't help either. I put the vitals in his bag for baggage claim. I swallowed.
"I'm sorry. I'm a little on edge."
He didn't respond. He zoomed to the airport and drove his car in the 72 hour parking space. He threw the car in park and stared out the window. I looked down and sighed.
"I am sorry. I didn't mean a word I said."
"Yeah, whatever. Forget about the marking thing. Let's just get going, the fate of humanity lies in your hands." He opened his door.
"Wait!" I shouted. "Spencer, please. I made a promise and I intend to keep it."
I unbuttoned my blouse, leaving myself in only a tank top. My hair was still up. I reach around him and closed his door. He looked annoyed and wouldn't look at me, even when I climbed onto his lap. He rested his chin in the palm off his hand glancing out the window.
I traced his jaw with my finger and bit my lip. He clenched his jaw and pulled away. I leaned in and kissed his forehead. Then his nose. Then his lips. I kept pecking until I got a response. I dug my hands into his scalp and sighed in relief when our tongues met. I needed this. It's better than any bath I'll ever take.
His kissed down my neck, and I shivered remembering what he was actually doing. I panted excitedly, and he licked the space where my neck and shoulder met. I waited patiently, feeling his canines shoot out instinctually. He started to breathe deeper and heavier, his hands crawling up my back, pulling me closer to him, caging me against him.
"Ready?"
"Yes."
He sunk his teeth in and I screamed in pain. I tried to push away, clawing his head, but his grip was firm. His teeth sunk in farther and farther until his tooth nicked my shoulder blade and I hissed, my fangs jutting out. He stopped moving and began to suck. The pain was automatically gone and replaced with this blissful euphoria. I nuzzled deeper and I threw my head back, moaning, I gasped for air, when I felt his feeling pulse through me starting from my shoulder and ending at my fingers and toes.
The car steamed up and I was floating on cloud 9. I glanced over my shoulder and saw the time. 10:30. We're not going to make it if we don't stop.
"Spencer, we have to stop...the plane...baby c'mon..." He wasn't listening and was instead grinding me on his lap. I pulled back and his fingernails dug into my skin. "Spencer!"
He ripped away and so did I. I climbed back to my seat and pulled my blouse on. I glanced over and he was facing the ceiling, eyes closed. His mouth was covered in my blood and he had a smirk plastered on his lips.
"That was incredible."
"We're going to be late."
"Relax a bit Dan,"
"You're high off your endorphins and you're horny. That plane is leaving with or without us."
His hand reached over to my lap. "We can get a morning flight-"
"No. Come on. I'm getting on that plane!"
I got out and grabbed my bag and his duffel bag. He came out shortly after, wiping my blood from his face, jogging next to me to the first desk. We handed off our bags and they printed off our tickets, and seconds later we were rushing over to security check. Of course, Spencer looked suspicious and was pulled away for a separate more detailed search.
I met him at the end of the screening, pissed and mumbling about sexism and discrimination. I pulled him through the airport and to our terminal where we were boarding. We got our seats in first class and I sighed in relief. Thanks goodness we made it.
"See we made it." He smiled.
"With minutes to spare." I said just as the flight attendant came on the intercom. I pulled out my phone and the book to scan more pages when I glanced at Spencer. I leaned in and kissed him again. It was more desperate than any other kiss we had. I felt the pain and need.
"I love you."
"I love you too, what's wrong?"
"Just making sure you knew."
~
"Hello? Is this the Anne Newel residence?"
"Yes, may I ask who wants to know that?"
"My name is Danielle and I'm here with my...boyfriend Spencer. I need something from you that only you can give to me Ms. Newel. May we come in?"
She opened the door, revealing a small, long gray haired lady with a mean face. "Come, boy. Closer."
Spencer shrugged his shoulders and gave me a confused look. He stepped up the porch and stood in front of her.
"Bare your teeth."
"What?"
"Bare your teeth."
He bared his teeth and she slid the screen to the left, using her hand to examine his teeth better. She tugged his lips and flicked at his teeth.
"Now you." She held her hand out for me, which I grabbed. She examined my teeth but she stared deep into my eyes, like she knew my darkest secrets.
"You are the granddaughter of Gabrielle and the daughter of Ella. He's a werewolf and you're his mate. You're also a hybrid."
"I-"
"There's no lying here, so don't." She closed the screen and opened the door. "You're auras are bad, clear them before entering."
"Auras? Look lady-"
"My name is Anne and you will address me as so, and you're auras filled with the worse of them. Anger and hatred. Clear them."
"How are we supposed to do that?"
"Speak them into the air. I will burn them away." She left.
"This is stupid. Let's just say we did."
"She's knows when we lie, just do it."
"Fine. I hate this. There. Happy?"
"I hate how you don't trust me. I hate the fact that I have to save the world. I hate the fact I can't relax on my summer vacation." I sat on the porch step. "I'm scared that I'm being a terrible mate for being so distant and cold. I'm a terrible daughter for putting my parents through his kind of stress. I'm a terrible friend for treating Nat the way I did. I'm selfish, self-absorbed, and a heartless freak."
Spencer looked at me and sat down rubbing my knee. "I hate how you won't be with me emotionally and mentally. I hate that I have to fight to get you to talk to me. I hate how you don't trust me. I hate that I'm the last person to know everything. I hate that I've been getting short tempered with you lately."
"Good." She took several incenses and burned them in the air above us. "Now. Come."
We stepped in and were greeted by several different, funky aromas and weird looking herbs and candles. The first thing she did was head over to an antique looking box.
"I know this might sound weird but I need your-" She held out a jar filled with blood.
"How did you know?" I asked.
"I know that the Darkness is coming, and the prophetess needs a witch's blood, so I was prepared if I was asked."
"Wow, can you get anymore weird?"
"So have you collected them all yet?"
"No, I'm missing one more thing?"
"What? You have the vamp venom, now witch's blood, what else could you need?"
She looked at me knowingly. "I ran out a few months back."
"It's going to be harder for me to get this one."
She stared at Spencer before turning around and digging in a bowl filled with odd herbs. She handed me a red flower and Spencer a purple one.
"Smell."
"What are these?"
"A helper and healer of the sorts."
I took a sniff and I felt fine. I watched Spencer take one, looked dazed, then passed out.
"What did you do?" I said leaning over him.
"Irises Romani. The seeds are covered in a diluted form of wolf bane mixed with chloroform and other sedatives, and then the seed produces a flowers that, when sniffed can paralyzed and sedate a werewolf."
"Why would you do that?"
"You need bone dust of a werewolf." She pulled out pliers. "His teeth are sufficient enough, and yes we must take the canines, but don't worry, they'll grow back."
"But they won't extend involuntarily."
"Yeah, they will, but only one way."
"How?"
"You."
"Me? How will I-"
"Your chemistry with him can trigger actions involuntarily. Grab that pillow," I handed her a pillow and she rested it underneath his head. "Touches, smells, taste, anything you know to bring out his teeth will be good. I need to pull out all 4, and by then, they'll be growing back, but larger and stronger."
"I don't think this is right. No, this is actually crazy-"
"Do you want him to die?"
"No."
"How about your parents?"
"No way."
"Other family, friends, acquaintances?"
"No."
"Then get the bones, I'll shave them down, and you'll be good to go. Ready?"
I felt rushed and unsure. "He'll be willing-,"
"No. When he wakes up without his teeth it'll be a dull but bearable throb. If he's awake, and we know that no other sedative will work and we take them out, he might murder me. So it's better to do it now. Besides fright and anger, what else makes his teeth sharpen?"
"Um...when he marked me, his teeth-,"
"So, a sexually drive. You'll need to reenact that scenario."
"But he-,"
"It'll do just fine the other way around. Now Danielle hurry, you need to get to the guidance of the Light before it's too late."
"None of this makes sense! How do you know more than me?"
"I lived through the first one."
"But that was centuries ago...,"
"I am a witch." She stood. "I'll leave you to it. Call me when you're ready." She slipped through the dangling bead curtain that hung over her doorway and played some therapeutic flute songs.
I looked at Spencer's unconscious figure and sighed, "Well, you're in the loop now."
I kissed his slightly cold lips and trailed down to his neck, slowly starting to straddle over him. I stopped his shoulder, whispered a few 'sorries' while grinding my hips over his. His lip twitched and I continued grinding harder. His lip twitched slightly again, but I was getting more from his bottom half than the top. I bit his shoulder and a hiss left his and I heard his teeth.
"Anne!" I called sitting up. I looked down at my fingers and then finally the taste touched my tongue, filling my mouth with the flavors of honey, gold, and chocolate. I bit again, but this time, I had no intention of letting go anytime soon.
"Danielle, no."
A pain touched my side and I looked as her glowing hands as she shoved me from Spencer that sent me barreling into the couch, a hiss escaping my lips. She removed each tooth, but not without a growl, hiss, and attempted bite. When finished, she disappeared and a grinder turned on.
I looked at Spencer and the need to feed disappeared and my worries came through.
"Spencer?"
"He is fine." She gave me a tablespoon of dust and dropped some liquid down Spenser's throat.
"He's healing as we speak. He'll be up within the hour. Are you hungry? Food or blood?"
"Both." I said eagerly and knelt beside Spencer. "Are you sure he'll be okay?"
"Or my name isn't Anne Newel."
