"I wanna go. Please mommy, please!" Natalie begged to her mother. She wanted to go to Cancun so badly.

"No." She answered. "you can go. I'm not spending Council money."

"You guys suck!"

"Yup," mom answered reading the newspaper.

I laughed, getting up but almost failing over. Extra weight concentrated in you lower abdomen can do that.

"Ugh." I got up. I waddled forward, pressing my hand in my back for support. It hurt being this way, but it worth it.

"Need help?" Grams asked.

"No." I walked outside, the moist air lined me with a coat of sweat. July 4. Crazy day for all of us.

"But mom!" Natalie whined.

"No!" Rowan snapped.

I stood outside, the guys were playing soccer, obvious Daniel and Ralph were winning against dad, uncle Damon, and Spencer. They weren't equipped for them.

I waddled back inside and up the stairs. I was winded and laid down on the bed, relaxing and shifting the weight on the bed and off of my spine.

"Your killing me in there." I said to my baby. I rubbed my stomach and sighed. "You okay in there? Haven't moved all day honey."

My baby didn't respond. It worried me.

"After this nap I'm going to see a doctor. You're scaring me."

I closed my eyes and I fell asleep. My stomach still and my mind worrisome.

~

"Ow. Ow. Ow." I frowned whimpering in my sleep. It's only been an hour and pain keeps shooting into my back. I sat up. "What's wrong with you in there?"

I brushed my hair back and felt a wet spot form underneath me. I flipped back the sheet and saw that it came from me.

I scoffed in surprised, and then panicked.

"Mom?" I yelled from my own door.

She was passing by, folding and sorting laundry while we stayed to visit. She drop the basket by her feet and folded towels.

"Yeah? Need ice packs or heating pads?"

"I need to go the the hospital. Now." I breath feeling the pain of a contraction coming on. I moaned in pain and my mom came rushing over.

"Awe. It's finally happening." She grabbed my hospital bag from my closet. "I'm way too young to be a Grandma.

A contraction ripped through, "Spencer!"

"Okay, up up." Mom instructed. She went downstairs to 5 sweat soaked guys watching soccer and 4 girls gossiping.

"Yup, yup," My mom said while passing by. "not a drill come on!"

They turned and gasped. I got to the threshold and another contraction came. "Jesus!"

Spencer got by my side and helped me into the car. Mom and dad drove with us and everyone else followed. I breathed deeply in the car, thinking of things to do besides the rip out my spine.

"You okay?" Spencer asked.

"Mhm." I nodded quickly through gritted teeth. "Yes."

We got to the hospital and as the finally sat me in a wheelchair outside the emergency room, Natalie came over, like a broadway show girl, sung loudly: "We're gonna have a baby!"

I couldn't help but laugh. I was having my first baby. My first treasure.

~

It was silent in the room while we waited for the sound. No crying. My baby wasn't crying.

"Spencer? Our baby, what's wrong with our baby?"

He kissed my head and held my hand tight. He was prepared for the worse. I wasn't.

"C'mon," Natalie begged following the nurses and doctors with the baby. "C'mon."

A loud, piercing wail came from my child and I sighed with great relief. It was systematic and robotic, but it was a cry. Spencer congratulated me.

"Congrats Alpha Spencer and Alpha Female Danielle." A nurse came over.

"Is it a boy or girl?" I asked.

"A boy." She replied placing him in my chest.

"I love you," I spoke lightly to him. "I love you Theo."

"Theo it is then." Spencer smiled. "You did good Dan,"

"Considering a pushed out a human life. I think I did extraordinary well. Didn't even yell at you." I handed him Theo.

"Hey," Spencer smiled. "I'm your daddy, and I love you."

Everyone gather to meet the new addition to the family and then a knocked broke through the silence. We were all confused and when Rowan opened the door, we were all shocked. Mother Maria stood there, casual clothing and a bright smile.

"Hi." I greeted as she came in.

"Is it true? Is it a boy?"

"Yes. What are you doing here?"

"Checking. The curse is broken." She said, "the stop of a first maternal lineage. No more first born girls."

"So now?"

"This is my goodbye, forever." She touched Theo's forehead and blessed him. "Good luck."

Everyone huddled close when Spencer gave her the baby to hold. Even I was apprehensive.

"He has your eyes," she said to Spencer. "He's all you."

~

Spencer and I took Theo home a couple of days later. We needed to get home in our surroundings with Theo to have our own mojo instead of mom and dad doing everything for us. I missed the feeling of my son inside of me, like a phantom fear, but I never let him go he even slept between us in his guard bed.

The next few days were fantastic and I knew we'll be able to do this.

"Hey," he smiled walking up behind me and Theo as he watching his first sunset. He laid quietly on my chest, quiet is somewhat his thing. Light tears and fussing but nothing major. Nothing since his birth.

"Hey,"

He wrapped his arm around me and that said enough. We did it. We made it. It's finally over. The curse is lifted thanks to this little hunk of handsomeness.

We are free.

We have shined.
