If you don't know if your town/city or the next place over have a convention, try googling it up, look up on Facebook or looking in movie magazines and their websites.
If you're new, I recommend starting going to a small or medium sized cons first so you don't get too overwhelmed by the size of the con.
Going to big conventions like San Diego Comic Con in California, USA or one of the MCM Comic Cons in Great Britain and Ireland is really overwhelming for a first timer.
So save going to big conventions when you feel ready to go to them. Just stick to small/medium conventions for a while and go to it for a day for a bit. The tickets for the day is cheaper the weekend ticket. It's easy on your wallet when you're going to cons for the first time.
