Chapter 16
Jack’s POV
"You're welcome," I said quietly, then pressed my lips to the top of her head.
This girl had me under her spell; her wish was my command. It felt so different to be such a gentleman, but it was what she deserved.
Technically she deserved someone much better than me; someone who could make her happy and who she could love.
I was about to ask her if she wanted anything when I noticed her breathing was soft and steady. She was asleep.
I sighed happily at the fact she’d once again fallen asleep in my arms, and hugged her closer to me. If she couldn't love me, I would be understanding and cooperative; I'd let her fall in love with someone else, and though it would kill me inside, maybe she could marry the lucky man.
She could have the perfect family she deserved and needed, and I'd be happy enough to get by just by seeing her happy. It was kind of a win-win.
Though in reality, I wanted her all to myself.
I was able to get my phone from my pocket without waking the sleeping angel in my arms, and I dialed a number I knew by heart.

Kaylyn's POV
I woke up Sunday morning, having had the best sleep in a long time. According to Jack I'd slept for fifteen hours; they'd had to give me some kind of drug that helped me sleep so I could heal. The x-ray that had been done on my ribs showed that I'd had a small fracture as well, not just bruising like they'd previously thought.
On that account, I was told to rest for a few days and given the week off work.Though I wouldn't need that long to get better, my boss had insisted. Something about me bringing so much business that she wanted to thank me.
Jack had gotten my clothes and belongings from the nurses and around ten I was ready to leave. I had to sign some paperwork, seeing as I was nineteen and I had to sign it myself, and then Jack drove me to Lilly's. I saw an unusual amount of cars outside her house, but I only briefly wondered about it.
Jack grabbed the small bag - from the trunk of another one of his cars - that Lilly had brought for me and led me to the front door. My fist hovered over the door, about to knock, when it swung open and Lilly smiled warmly at me.
"You're here!" she cried, then pulled me into a bone crushing hug.
“Can’t . . . breathe,” I choked out. She immediately let go and looked me over, head to toe.
“Did I hurt you?! Are you okay?!” she asked in a worried rush.
“I’m fine Lilly!” I said, exasperated. Jack had asked me that same question at least a hundred times that day, and it had really started to irk me.
“Well come on!” she said, ushering me inside. Slightly confused, I stepped in and she led me to her living room.
“Welcome home!” dozens of people yelled. I turned and quirked an eyebrow at Lilly, who was giddy with excitement.
“You were in the hospital, you deserved a warm welcome!” she explained. I rolled my eyes but smiled nonetheless. Suddenly Jack appeared beside me and slipped an arm around my waist.
