Epilogue
Once my life went back to normal - well, as normal as it gets when you’re dating a celebrity - Jack had waited another year to propose to me. It was the most beautiful thing ever, and I hadn’t been expecting it at all.
We had taken a weekend off of our busy lives to go visit his aunt and uncle in Santa Barbara, where we spent the majority of our time on the beach. One day we’d decided to take a walk down the beach, and as we walked hand in hand, I saw something sparkling had been washed up on the shore. I leaned over to pick it up, and gasped when I realized it was an engagement ring.
“Whoever lost this must be freaking out,” I said, shaking my head slightly.
“Can I see it?” Jack asked, making my whole being go crazy just at the sound of his voice. I nodded my head, then pressed it into the palm of his hand. He suddenly stood in front of me and got down on one knee, causing me to lose the ability to breathe.
“Kaylyn Bradford, will you marry me?” he asked, smiling up at me. Through my blurred tears I could just barely make out his figure before me, his shaggy hair almost touching his brown eyes. I’d made him grow it out to see if I liked it on him, and that one detail made me realize he was still waiting for my answer.
“Yes,” I choked out, tears falling down my face in happiness. He slipped the ring onto my finger, then stood up and pulled me into his embrace, his lips crashing down onto mine.
We had quickly become the ‘it’ couple again, but for real. Not some fake sham created for publicity. Five months later we were married, and one year after that I’d finally become a director. Our life together was perfect in every way, and nothing could ever separate us.
A total of eight years after we’d met, I told him I thought I was pregnant. I would always remember the look on his face: he was completely and utterly happy. There was no other word to describe it.
I’d been craving diced tomatoes and ice cream for a few weeks, which had tipped me off, since I had never liked tomatoes before in my life. I also had some morning sickness - though don’t be fooled by the name, it was at all hours of the day - which at first I’d thought was the flu.
We had gone to the doctor together a few days later, and in fact confirmed that I was going to have a baby. It was the most precious moment of my life, though it would be replaced by the baby’s birth; I knew that much for sure.
A week after we’d found out the great news, I had a craving for chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream in the middle of the night.
“Do we have any left?” he asked.
“No, we don’t,” I pouted. I shoveled that stuff down my throat; of course we were out. He smiled at me, causing a swarm of butterflies to erupt in my stomach, which in turn made a smile stretch across my face, too.
“I’ll go get you some,” he said as he started to climb out of our bed, where we’d been cuddling and watching old black and white movies as a tradition. Melody stirred from where she had been sleeping on the floor, hearing a new commotion.
“Babe, you don’t have to, it’s the middle of the night,” I protested. I patted the bed next to me, and my dog jumped up. I started scratching behind her ears lovingly. “We can get some tomorrow.”
“If you’re having my baby, I’m going to get what you crave,” he said. I smiled at him; he was so freaking sweet to me, I never could understand how I ended up with him.
