The (Un)expected Photo

After school, Baekhyun was waiting for Sehun and Kai at the main entrance. He jumped right towards Sehun and gave him a quick embrace before the younger pushed him away by reflex.

"Hyung, we're in public," Sehun hissed softly but Baekhyun just chuckled. Kai held back his laughter but was punched in the back. Kyungsoo was frowning visibly at him and Kai just casually put a hand around his shoulder.

"Shall we go?" Kai asked and Sehun nodded.

" Where are you guys going?" Kyungsoo asked, slightly surprised as he hadn't heard anything from Kai.

"Sehun's house. We are going to collect some things," Kai explained. Kyungsoo nodded but made a mental note to ask Kai how he got permission to enter the other's house. He bade them farewell and they made their way to Sehun's house.

"Do you like fish or chicken more?" Baekhyun started asking Sehun about his preferences which Sehun just reply to. Kai kept quiet and typed away on his phone at times. When they reached, the police waved their hands at Kai and let him through.

"Make it quick. My dad doesn't like me doing this actually," Kai said with a grin. Sehun nodded and thanked him for even bothering before he went over to talk to the police in charge. He rummaged through his things, taking his bank account book and whatever he deemed necessary. Baekhyun stood beside him all the while. He was looking through his things on the table when Baekhyun picked up the photograph which was laying flat. It was a photo of young Sehun with his parents. His smile looked half hearted. Sehun accidentally nudged Baekhyun and he turned to apologize when he saw the photo in his hands.

"That's- well. Why are you looking at it?" Sehun asked while frowning.

"Just wanted to see why you would place a photo upside down. When did you take it?" Baekhyun asked while putting it back down.

"The last time they actually celebrated my birthday before Lay and the rest came over and that happened," he explained while stuffing his things into his school bag.

"Aren't you going to bring it?" Sehun paused. He looked at it, sighed and picked it up.

"I don't know...," his voice trailed off as he just stared at the photo. Kai entered the room.

"Ya done yet?" He asked and Sehun took one last look around his room before nodding. He looked at the photo and removed it from the frame. He stuffed it into his pocket and motioned them to exit his room. He stared at his room and looked around his house before deciding to leave. He was hoping to be able to get the house back once they were done so that he didn't have to depend on Baekhyun but that was after he gets a proper job too.

"Where to now? Wanna get bubble tea before heading back?" Kai asked and they just went along with it since none of them felt like doing much. It reminded Sehun of the time he had a small talk with Luhan and Baekhyun. Oddly enough, that was just a few weeks ago but it felt so long ago. Baekhyun was strangely quiet and it felt weird for Kai and Sehun.

"What's wrong, hyung?" Kai asked when he couldn't stand the silence. Baekhyun snapped his head up in surprise when Kai tapped him on his shoulder.

"Oh sorry. What were you saying?" Both Kai and Sehun exchanged glances.

"You were being really quiet. Is something bothering you?" Sehun asked. Baekhyun's blur expression hardened to a frown.

"Yeah. There is but I don't know if I should tell you guys. I'm not ready to," he confessed while pouting. Sehun patted his back.

"Take your time and decide then. You can tell us anything you want," he said while sipping away on his drink. Baekhyun held his hand and the younger boy flinched while turning red.

"Aww. You're such a sweetheart, Sehun," Kai teased the blushing boy who snarled back. Although his face was burning up, he didn't want to let go of the hand holding his. It was comforting.

"Thanks, Hunnie. I feel relieved now. I was thinking of telling my father about us." His sudden sentence made Kai spit his drink and Sehun to choke. They were both in a coughing fit while Baekhyun tried to calm them down.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't expect you to react like this," Baekhyun apologized while patting them in the back one after another.

"Well I didn't expect you to say that so suddenly," Kai spoke with a slightly hoarse voice before drinking to soothe the pain in his throat. Sehun covered his mouth and stared into another direction. He didn't know what to say. Thousands of thoughts crossed his mind at once.

"Hunnie? Are you okay? Maybe I shouldn't have said it after all," Baekhyun sighed. Sehun shook his head frantically.

"No no. I'm okay. I mean it's up to you if you want to tell your own father about this. I was just surprised that you would even want to tell. I mean we just got together like not long ago so I'm just seriously not really ready for you to say this yet," he said everything in a single breath and breathed deeply after he was done. He gulped when he realized Baekhyun probably didn't hear 90% of what he said but the latter burst into laughters.

"You worry about weird things. I mean it's normal to tell my father that I'm gay first right?"

"Oh is that what you meant?" Sehun asked confused. He thought Baekhyun was going to tell him about them dating.

"No. I think he meant he's going to tell his father about him being gay and being with you," Kai deduced and Baekhyun nodded.

"Oh...?" Sehun was confused and just stared at his friend and boyfriend.

"You're so cute when you're confused. What I meant was what Kai said. Are you not okay with that?"

"Uh... well it is up to you," Sehun said once he registered their words properly.

"Let's do it tonight then."
