The (Un)expected Friend

Kai managed to keep up a small conversation each time he felt Sehun was feeling down and it was his fifth time when his phone rang simultaneously. He picked it up and greeted the person. Sehun watched him for awhile while fiddling with his pencil when he noticed Kai's frown and sigh. When he shut the phone, his eyes met one of a concerned Sehun.

"Uh... do you want to come along? My brother asked me to send him lunch since he's too busy with college to even budge," Kai grumbled while standing up.

"Sure. I don't feel like doing schoolwork anyways," Sehun replied while pushing himself up. With Baekhyun's presence beside him in school and his short absence, no one would want him as a tutor anymore and frankly, he was fine with that. They left the house and Kai packed food for his brother.

With as much distraction as Kai could make, Sehun didn't feel so bitter anymore. He felt a little more carefree and he stretched his body. They made it to his brother's college and Kai went to the directory to find his brother's whereabouts. Sehun looked around when a certain someone came up to him.

"Hello," the stranger greeted Sehun who was confused but greeted back politely. "Are you students here? I'm looking for the main office. Do you think you could show me around?"

"I'm sorry but I'm not a student here. I just have the height," Sehun apologized and bowed. The stranger gasped and bowed as well.

"I'm sorry for making such a mistake. You certainly are tall," the stranger chuckled while Sehun smiled back.

"The office is here," Kai spoke out and pointed on the map he had been looking at.

"Oh thanks a lot. Are you two here to sign up for college?" He asked while looking at the map.

"Nah. We were just looking for someone," Kai said. They bade each other goodbye and they left to find the class.

"He seems familiar," Sehun said once they entered the building. He couldn't remember where he had seen that boy who spoke to them but there was a lingering feeling in his chest.

"Maybe a friend from elementary?" Kai suggested and Sehun shrugged. They met up with Kai's brother who looked half dead from the consistent studying. After handing him the food and Kai lecturing his brother regarding his health, they made their way out again.

"I'm going to drop by the loo," Kai said when they were passing by a toilet. Sehun nodded and waited outside for him. He watched college students walk past him without batting an eyelash at him. Some were rushing, some were talking and there were those that were casually walking. The atmosphere was different from his school. Everyone seemed to be in their own bubble and he couldn't see any interaction between people who walked down the corridors unlike Kai who greeted tons of people. It made him feel safe in a way.

In a place where no one knows me... the silence. It feels so welcoming.

"Sehun? It that you?" A familiar voice made him open his eyes but he hadn't notice that he closed them. Lay walked up to him with a smile.

"W-what are you doing here, Lay?" He asked, startled.

"My friend, well, our friend wanted to visit the college around and I thought I'll accompany him before flying back. It's been awhile since we met anyways," Lay said.

"Our friend?" Sehun asked while tilting his head.

"Lay, why did you run off on your own??" The stranger that Sehun had met earlier came bouncing beside Lay with a pout but stopped when he saw Sehun. "Oh? You're that person from earlier. Where's your other friend?"

"In the toilet....." Sehun stared at the boy. So he does know him but he doesn't remember him.

"You don't recognize him either, Chen?" Lay asked while smiling at the two oblivious boys.

"Who?" Chen asked while looking at Sehun again. It took him awhile but he gasped and took a step back. "You- Hunnie? Oh my God. You're so tall. I hadn't even- gahhh I'm so glad to meet you again." Chen hugged Sehun tightly and that baffled him. When he let go to look at Sehun, the younger was just petrified.

"Chen. Ah- Hyung. H...how are you?" Sehun said awkwardly. He wasn't expecting to meet Chen and he surely wasn't expecting him to look so different.

"I'm doing fine. What about you...?" Chen hesitated for a moment but still asked while grinning. Sehun half forced a smile back when he thought about how meeting him must have brought back bad memories to the other.

"Yeah. I'm fine too..."

"Be happier, you two. It's been so long since we met up too," Lay said cheerfully and patted both boys on their backs. Kai exited the toilet coincidently and halted when he saw Chen and Lay.

"Lay? What are you doing here? And you, the person from earlier?? You know Lay???" Kai asked, confused at the sudden situation. Lay explained to Kai and invited them for coffee which no one declined since Sehun stayed quiet and Kai was thinking of buying coffee earlier.

At the cashier, Sehun stood towering behind Chen. He was looking at his own fingers and his mind was going around in circles. He had been afraid that Chen would have reacted differently but the cheerful smile he got completely baffled him instead.

"Americano?" Chen asked Sehun who flinched slightly but he managed a nod. "My treat."

"Eh? No, I can pay," Sehun said while flailing his arms but the other already handed the cash over for the four of them.

"Sneaky," Lay chuckled as they walked over to the table. Chen smirked and sat first.

"I'm treating but you guys can take the order later," Chen said while smiling.

This troll.

Sehun found himself smiling a little when he remembered how Chen used to troll everyone in class. He was one of the mood makers of the class and a really fun, easygoing person to hang out with. That thought made him miss hanging out with all his previous classmates. Before they had come over and that incident happened.

Nevertheless, they chatted happily and it made his heart lighter, like a burden has been lifted or the guilt that lounge in him all this while faded.

"You do know I don't blame you for anything, right? Sehun. Not then and definitely not now."

A/N : Here is an update before I plunge into another 3 months of college and not update till whenever zzz I'm really sorry about not updating when I could have but couldn't thanks to my laziness and writer block
