What's one of the most dangerous experiences you've ever been through?
Any and all quests are extremely dangerous.
I think the most danger I've been in was the Battle of Manhattan.
I wasn't there for the first part, so I'll let Emma take over for now.
Hey, guys. em-musical_ermine here.
This is a hard story to tell, so bear with me.
It's difficult to tell the story of how your only sister dies.
So, it was the Battle of Manhattan. Everything was crazy, and none of us could tell who was winning.
I was ten. Will and Erica were thirteen.
Erica and I were fighting back-to-back, as we did. She was scolding me for leaving the Empire State Building, because nowhere was safe for a ten-year-old with no experience and even less talent.
Then-
I don't know what happened, but when I turned to snap back that I was plenty old enough, the world stopped turning.
She was lying on the ground, a sword through her chest.
The empousa who'd stabbed her pulled her sword out of Erica's chest and turned to me. I screamed in rage and threw my sword, slicing her in two. The vampire turned into dust, and I dropped to my knees beside my sister.
I opened my mouth to speak, to tell her that it was going to be okay, that we'd heal her, but she hushed me.
"Emma. I'm not going to live."
"No!" I sobbed. "No. I can't-you can't go."
"Emma!" Her tone was harsh.
"Wh-what?"
"Listen to me. I'm going to die. Nothing can change that. Got it?"
Tears streaming down my face, I nodded.
"Smile."
"What?"
"You heard me. You know how much I love your smile. I want to see it before I go."
Though my heart was breaking and I felt as if my soul were being ripped out of my chest, I dried my eyes and smiled.
For her.
Her hand reached out and cupped my cheek. "I love you."
I grabbed her hand. "I love you, too."
She smiled and closed her eyes.
"No..." I had too much more to say, too much more to tell her. I could feel her muscles relaxing as she exhaled for the last time.
Erica was gone. I'd never hear her sing, never see her bend light the way she did, never hear the carefree sound of her laugh again.
Never.
I held my sister's body and cried-I don't know how long, or how nobody noticed.
Nobody came, and I wanted to die.
I wanted to join my sister.
Then Will came.
I'd been fighting with the rest of my cabin when I noticed that I couldn't see Erica or Emma.
I yelled something vague at one of my siblings and pushed through the swarm of monsters and demigods, calling for them.
Somehow, I found them.
Her.
Just Emma.
She was kneeling on the ground, holding Erica and sobbing.
Realization hit me like a blow to the stomach. I couldn't breathe.
"Emma," I choked.
She looked up, a look of pure grief on her tear-streaked face.
"We have to go."
"No. I'm not leaving her." Each word came out as a half sob.
"Emma, we have to go. It's not safe."
"I'm not going!"
"You have to come with me!" By this point, I was shouting.
"I'm NOT LEAVING HER!" Emma screamed. Suddenly her eyes grew wide. "Will..."
I turned my head and saw a dracaena standing behind me, a club held over her head. More surrounded us. She cackled, and all I could do was stand there, unarmed, thinking, This is when I die.
I know.
The dracaena prepared to swing and burst into dust.
A grinning skeleton in armor stood where the dracaena had been. I was unsure if this skeleton was going to kill me, but it moved past me and started attacking the other snake women, aided by some of its friends.
Once I was certain that we were in no danger of death by the dead, I bent down and picked up Erica's body. Emma seemed to realize what I was doing and snatched a sword from a fallen skeleton. We made our way through the mob.
At some point a group of skeletons surrounded us, holding off monsters until we made it to safety.
That's when I saw him.
Nico was a whirlwind of pure power.
It was very hot, but I'm not going to go into that.
